96 Carlo 3.4L DOHC swapping to a 3.8L Supercharged
I just got winded that it can be done. Since this is new to me, can people point me in the direction on information whether this is right and how to go about it (as in what it takes to be down). Basically, any information would be helpful.

As far asI know, this is the only L67 swap guide specifically for the 5th gen monte's. I wrote it a year or so back.
The swap is pretty straight forward, its 95% bolt in and plug in, with only a few minor exceptions.
sell ur car and get a monte with the 3.8 and do an l67 conversion
Considering his car is a 96, with the 3.4 dohc that people avoid, he wouldn't get much for his car- and I'd bet you'd end up working out about the same, or losing money by selling the car and buying a 98/99 Z34.
Plus, the other thing is that mileage- he'd be hard pressed to find another 3800 wbody close in price with that kind of mileage for the kind of money he's gonna be able to get for his car- mostly due to the 3.4 and the age. I realize you'd be ditching the engine/trans, but 60k on the body/suspension and all other parts is a keeper IMO, especially if the body is in good shape.
How much would the swap cost?
With a higher mileage (100k+) L67/4t65hd, I bet you could pull it off under $1k- but getting a setup with lower mileage (at least similar to your car), and giving yourself some room- I'd bet your total ends up around $1250-1500- but you always want to have extra money available as buffer (could end up the trans is shot, or the alternator is dead, or something, and you would need extra cash to fix it asap).
One other thing to mention- you said this is your daily driver. If you lack mechanical ability to tackle big projects- I wouldn't even bother on your DD. There are a lot of possible pitfalls and bugs (there are a lot of pitfalls on a top swap too) that can render your car useless. If this is your first engine swap, I'd probably budget 5 days down time to be safe too. It is completely feasible to pull it off in a weekend for a first timer, if you read and understand the guide- and are pretty good with mechanicals, and it is feasible to do in a day (I'm talking a long, full day- not an 8 hr shift) for someone who has done a lot of these L67 swaps.
bumpin thats assuming that hes not only mechanically inclined but that he is mechanically able...believe me there is a difference. he also needs a place he can do the swap, a cherry picker, all the tools needed to pull off the swap, the new engine (hopefully someone has on pulled out and willing to sell and if its not close he either has to drive or pay for shipping) if all he has is an idea its goin to be much more expensive
if all he has is an idea its goin to be much more expensive
If it had to come down to that, IMO- you'd be better off spending that money on a used GP GTP.
I have the tools and place at my disposal to do the swap. Was asking because it was something new to me and wanted to make sure it was right information. Also, if I was to do this I wanted to know the pitfalls and what I would be getting myself into considering at the moment it is my everyday driver, however that is going to change by the fall time. Just wanted to know if it is was worth it considering what I've heard about the Z34 and the low mileage I have on my car. My car is in good-excellent shape for it being a Z34.
