Default 3800 Series II Powertain from 99' GTP

Looking at a 99' Grand Prix GTP for a decent price with a 125k Mile powertrain. It contains a 3800 series II engine.

I currently purchased a 2004 Monte Carlo LS in excellent shape cosmetic and body wise. The powertrain is around 70k Miles atm.

If i can score a good deal on the above Gran Prix should i purchase it for a potential swap in the near future?

I want the car to be VERY reliable(mainstay driving vehicle) so will this require an engine rebuild? I'll be leaving the work to professional's as i am not a mechanic by any means(however i love a nice car).

I figure if i can score the vehicle for around $800 i could swap the engine, transmission, exhaust, and whatever else from the GTP for a swap into the 2004 Monte ls.

My Question to you guys is, will a direct swap require a rebuild of the engine and transmission before installation?

Thankful for any suggestions, you guy's have some great info on here.

Regards,

MonteFirst

Do not rebuild the engine. 3800's usually do poorly after they are rebuilt. The tranny on the other hand would be a good idea, especially if you plan on modifying the L67 before or after the swap. The BEST place for 4T65E parts/rebuild/everything is: www.tripleedgeperformance.com

Keep in mind though that depending on what state you live in, it might be illegal to install in older engine into a newer vehicle. Check out your local laws for that info.

One last thing, a mechanic is going to RAPE you to do an engine swap, especially if they're not familiar with the swap. It's always best/cheapest to do the work yourself.
