Default 350 Turbo Transmission

Hey guys I had just bought my 85 Monte Carlo SS. When I bought the car I had thought it was a standard automatic but it actually has a 350 turbo transmission. I had set it in drive a cruised home in it thinking nothing of it. I'm not too familiar with the transmission and was wondering if I was correct in my theory that I need to shift at a certain point or does it just shift gears on its own? I appreciate any help you guys can provide.

A 350 turbo transmission is a regular automatic transmission that will shift itself if you put it in drive. You do not have to shift it yourself but you can if that is what you want to do (just as you can any other automatic transmission)
BTW Welcome to the forum and congrats on the Monte!!
