I have a 86 ss stock all the way with 49000 original miles.


I have been thinking about putting a 350 330hp 380 torque small block in my car. I found the complete dressed engine on summit. i have been also leaning very much towards a 383 small block. but if i went that route would i be able to drop it in like i would the 350 or would i have to change my transmission or anything else. if anybody can point me in the right direction as to what 383 sbc would be best and what i would have to do furtherto get this in my car installed and having my car run correctly. i do not drag race or anything like that. just a guy who wants to add ***** to his car.

 

a 350 bored 30 thousand over with an edelbrock intake, nice cam, nice carb (holley 650 double pumper) good ignition system and a set of headers will give you great results and probably be cheaper than buying a crate motor, you will have a 355 and it will scream just make sure you get the right pistons (forged flat top). You can do a lot more mods, such as heads (porting and polishing) etc, etc and build up from there. A windage tray alone will give you 10 - 15 hp

I believe, a 383 is just a 350 with a crank from a 400 in it so you can perform that mod at any time if you already have a 350 (I may be mistaken but I think I'm correct) and you may have to perform some additional internal modifications to make it all work, but the torque will be very sweet.
