I think you should just buy a 3800 rather than the 3900 in my opinion. Just as everyone else says that the aftermarket upgrades is wide open for that motor. If I would have known what I know now I would have got and 05' Monte or older.

The S/C3.8 is much more powerful, faster, and already has a good reputation, I'd recommend you go with the S/C 3.8 over the 3.9.

lol ya you should totally just buy a 2000 dollar engine and spend at least 500 plus to put it in. then buy another 1000 plus in bolt ons. new mounts, trans, axles, speedo, wiring, fluid containers,..............ect
ya im dissapointed in the aftermarket for the 7th gen too. if you want your car faster you have to spend some money to do it.
either that or trade in your car for the ss.

if you have a 6th ge it would be a lil easier. and you can get a 3.9 for much less. plus you would have to upgrade axles and trans.

I wouldn't bother swapping the engine. I personally prefer the huge aftermarket of the 3800 myself, but I think it would be a waste of time to swap the engine out, when you could just go buy a s/c 3800 6th gen or even an NA 3800 6th gen and do a top swap, and have the exact car you want without the hassle of swapping engines.
Also- to the OP- if you're seriously considering the V8 SS and are concerned about ability to mod- the LS4 isn't overly mod friendly for basic bolt on's either. Sure they have headers available now, and people are slowly figuring out the easiest ways to do an intake manifold swap.
However, there is still a large gap in the power world with them- you've got all the basic bolt ons that haven't been shown to really add a ton of power (I think it was only 17 hp from the headers IIRC- and those are $1000)- then you've got a big step to doing heads/cam or a $5k turbo setup to make real power. No engine will ever be as bolt on friendly as a boosted engine.

I think the guy that originally mentioned wanting to swap to the 3.9 had a 2002 LS with the 3.4, so swapping to the 3.8 would be easier, no axel or trans upgrade necessary.

The 3900 and 3800 are in no way the same- the 3900 is along the same lines of the 3500, 3400, 3100, etc- the 3800 is a completely different engine line.

That is because Milzy gets all of his junkyard parts from Ed Morad. So if he is trying to get you an engine, transmission, wiring harness (for an L67 swap) - or something like that- you're much better off going through Morad Parts Company directly.
