its doable but i think it takes some cutting and making space for the engine and you would probably be better off just getting an 06-07 ss and doing a front bumper/end swap if you want the 6th gen look, probably cheaper in the end too

If you've got the time, money and know-how, then you can do it. I would think that this would be one of the easier engine swaps out there to do though. Best bet would be to find a donor car at a salvage yard becuase you will need the wiring harness, pcm, engine, axels, exhaust peices, etc. If you do it you will have one sleeper Monte!

Of course its possible, the LS4 came in virtually the exact same car a few years later (ie 06+). So obviously it will fit just fine.

Honestly, I doubt the engine bays are that different- I really don't think you'd have to cut anything. I'd imagine you'd probably need everything from the cradle up off donor car though- including all wiring.

But I think you're right- unless you got a full LS4 dropout for almost nothing, and had plenty of free time to tear the car apart and dink with it- just picking up an 06+ SS would be much easier and more reliable. They're not that expensive, especially if you don't mind considering an Impala or GP with the LS4 also.

Just like every time this comes up- since you already have a 3800- why not take the money and do an L67 top swap or a used turbo kit? You could easily have the same power with less hassle.

it was done by a member on here to a monte. actually i believe gm did it to a monte and an impala. those cars were v8 cars. some guy bought the motor and tranny from the impala and did a swap on a grand prix.
