Got a new cat installed for $375.
Reset computer to clear P420.

Got new code P440 code (evap).

I cleared the code again and driving it to clear the computer.

I picked up a code monitor - very handy when dealing with these check engine lights.

I've done 130 miles and 2 monitors still left to clear - the two outstanding monitors are cat and evap.

I understand for a 2003 and my state - I can try for the sticker when 2 out of 3 monitors are met - and assuming no codes have been logged or pending codes.

Right now - with 2 monitors left - there are zero codes.

Where the P440 code is concerned - I inspected the hoses for the engine evap solenoid - two of the Y's are in poor condition and cracked. I sort of reseated them - but where do I get new replacmement Y's?
Not to sound too ignorant - but these hoses have molded Y adapters for multiple diameter hoses. Does GM really not carry replacement hoses for this stuff ?
If I have to fabricate them with tee's and new hoses its going to look a little crappy compared to oem replacement hoses.
Just asking....

Thx!

Shows the rubber Y for two vacuum hoses. Notice the crack.
Need to replace this - maybe this is causing the P440.

I already replaced the vacuum hose on the left.

And I assume this cap is the service port for testing vacuum in the system and for smoke tests.

Hi
Definitely replace the hoses in figure1. Spray a lot throttle body cleaner inside.

Remove the solenoid in figure 2. Soak that puppy in wd-40 and place back in the circuit
See what happens, maybe something good.

Well right now, I cannot afford a car payment, or to buy a new car, so putting a new sensor in the transmission is my only option for right now. I've already done a bunch of work to the car so a new sensor isn't bad. The next time something goes wrong and it ends up costing me $500+, new car (when I can).

Following the GM drive cycle will expedite getting all monitors in the ready state.
