Default 2000 mass air flow sensor?

my 2000 monte carlo ss 3.8 threw a mass airflow sensor code, so i purchased a new one today, but came with it were instructions stating that it might be necessary to get the adaptions reset? ive never herd of that and they say its different then resetting the codes through a obd scanner/re setter, if any one has replaced there's and did or didnt re set there adaptions please let me know. thank you.

are you sure you maf is bad? I was throwing a code and after a lot of frustration, I found the culprit to be a loose pins on the maf causing a bad connection. Figured it out by the hesitation whenever I wiggled the connector (which I thought was the connector causing the problem). found a junkyard maf, hooked it up, cleared the code, not it runs fine no problems.

tl;dr just install new maf then clear the code. should be fine after that or soon after the computer relearns it.

A lot of times the MAF may be bad, it just needs cleaned. I'd follow the instructions on a can of MAF cleaner first.

unplug your battery for an hour and it should reset the PCM's values from the sensor and force it to grab new ones from the new sensor.

I got the mass air flow sensor replaced in my old SS with an official GM one from the dealership the cheapest one I found was from Autozone for $180 the GM one was $350 I found out about the autozone one after I had it already fixed im not sure how long it last compared to the GM one but its a relatively easy fix a pull out plug in with the battery disconnected for about an hour and you should be all set
