200 vs. 700 ???
Hey everyone,
I have a 1985 SS, 305v8. I am going to pull the stock motor and put in a new 350. I have read that these SS's had 2 transmissions, a 200 and 700 version. I read that if you look at the transmission pan you could figure out what version you had. The 700 is a rectangle where the 200 has a corner cut out of its shape. Has anyone heard anything like this?
Thanks!

i would stick with the 200R4. then you don't have to deal with relocating your trans crossmember and changing your drive shaft length. i would take it to a shop and get it rebuilt so it's reliable for years to come. you can build them to withstand almost any engine, i've even seen them behind a 454 with about 475+ hp. then all you have to do is drop it back into place and bolt it up, not cutting or modifying.

What he said^^. I need to get another one put together for my elcamino, cant complain broke it at the track in July. Was rebuilt back in 92', had 183,000 on it then added another 40,000 or so since + 488 passes down the track(slips I can find, maybe more). Locked up between 3rd and 4th at 105-6mph.
Will probably cost alittle more for the 200, but the gear spread is alot better.
