Default 1972 Monte Carlo w/3 speed?

Hello all I am new to the forums and I am looking at buying a 72MC with SBC and 3 speed manual transmission, I am asking is that normal? I looked under neath there and it looks as though someone made their own 3rd pedal?

4 speed was discontinued in 72. You could only get a 3 speed.

3 speed manual or a 2 speed auto if you have the 2 barrel 350. The 4 barrel 350 as well as the 402 & 454 offered that year got a 3 speed auto only. Not long after, GM stopped offering manuals at all.

4 speeds weren't used again until the 3rd gens came out in 78, which is also when the manual 3 speed came back out on the V6 models.

I thought you could still get the 4 speed with the 454 in 73?I remember seeing one never ask the guy if it was original.
I know I never seen a three on the tree in them.Or any with a 2 speed auto except drag cars with glides.

I'll double check. I've seen a brochure for models in 72 that said "Sorry, no 4 on the floor" since GM was trying to rebrand the Luxury Coupe style. Far as I know it stuck for a few years past.

I know back then you could order cars with some options they normally didn't come with too.
