I have a 1970 Monte Carlo I'm taking the old 350/300 hp engine out and replacing it with sbc 400 with 180 afr heads scorpion roller rockers and a lunati 60102 cam with duration 219/227. Lift 469/489

I'm wondering how will this car react turbo 350 trans and car geared 2.73 and with 255 /15 tires


Is 4.11 swapp in the future. Turbo 350 have a high 1st gear of 2.52 my intake and carb are air gap and holly 650 double pump

 

Welcome to the MCF What's the condition of your 350 trans ?
How many miles on the trans ? Did you do any upgrades to it ?
2.73 is a high rear gear & the 4.11 will sure help launch

Are you building for the strip ? or street & strip ?

I do have 4l70 and torque converter if trans pukes. I bought it for another engine 480 hp ls3 but sold it stuck with computers and other goodies

The cam is equal to 350/350 hp hopefully I can get it rolling

I thought on 3.73 3.91 or 4.11 I just want to have strong car sounds great but not a dragster

 

95K miles on your trans can be OK if it hasn't been abused & has been serviced over the years.

Good sounds comes from a well tuned built engine. Do you have headers ? What type of exhaust ? Wish you good luck on getting your Monte the way you want it to `be...Keep us updated + pictures when time permits...

 

Thank you. Today we made some changes Taking out turbo 350 installing 4l70 I had laying around no miles on it plus computer and torque converter. Header wise long tube 1/3/4 with 2/1/2 pipe. Still undecided on 3.73 or 3.91 with limited slip diff. I tried picture no luck yet to transfer

 

Thanks for your update... Sounds like a good plan...Your exhaust system sounds strong...+ a posi is always a good investment. Rear gear is another decision on how you will drive your Monte Carlo ? Low gear or 4.11 + are good for a 1/4 mile, but not that great on long highway trips. Is your Monte going to be your daily driver ?

Ok new update added 1/3/4 headers and Eaton lsd . I project with afr 180 heads headers 650 double pump Holley lunati 60102 cam with roller rockers pushing 355 horsepower with 4l70 automatic od.
