07 SS tranny issue

07 SS tranny issue
In September, I bought 07 SS w v8 after the monthly payment for 2010-11 camaro is out of reach for me...
Now, after 90 days and 12,000 miles warranty expired, tranny started to acting up last weekend. And quit on me today after I picked it up from dealer where I bought it from. They said that i have to take it to gm bec they (dodge) can't do gm tranny. So I decided to take it to tranny specialist, rather than rip-off Chevy service dept.
Get this... I bought it at about 32,000 miles.. Now tranny croaked out at 47,500 miles...
I don't know if car is having culture shock from about 5,000 miles per year to 15,000 miles in 4 months. Or is it common among with 07 ss v8 to have tranny issue. Is anyone having tranny issues or know about similar problem with others??
Sure, I do drive fast.. But with this v8, I really don't have to floor it. I just give little pedal and off it go.. Only time I give big press on gas pedal is when I'm passing someone... Few times I was in hurry... But just give enough gas to point where it start to spin. And u know how little press On gas pedal is all you need to spin.. Lol..
I don't step on pedal like I did with my 99 and 03 SS that u had to floor it to get full jump in speed..
The tranny place is going to look into it... And hopefully it just need to be repair instead of full rebuilt...

It is common but at 47k miles? That's rare they usually start acting up at the 100k mile marker.
Hope you get a good price on the rebuild

47k isn't that uncommon really. It seems to be hit or miss with these transmissions. I have heard of people having trouble atas low as 30k or ones that are up over 100k doing just fine and beat on it everyday.

It's a crapshoot honestly. The 4T65E-HD is known to have problems in the LS4 world although duration and exact problem(s) widely varies from one to another; more case-by-case than anything. I know clunking and shuttering are a few problems that have been known to arise at lower mileage.

I was at 200,000 Km's (125,000 Miles) when it started acting up.
Stuttering and hard shifts turned into clucking shifts, way worse when it was hot. It cooked the transmission fluid on a long trip. It was like mud when I got back from a Toronto to North Carolina to Toronto trip.
I took it to Dave at Triple Edge Performance in Fort Wayne Indiana. Just made it there, limping. Had a fine metal dust all through the tranny.
After a re-build, new rad and an external cooler added, it shifts solid, and at the right time. Better than new.
Dave said some go sooner than others. I suspect mine lasted longer than normal because of a lot of highway driving, , Virginia, Texas, California, Florida, Tennessee. Each vacation was a different NASCAR Race.
Good Luck!

Actually, Triple Edge Performance is the name that comes up a lot for transmission rebuilds on these cars. They specialize in the GM 4T65E doing stock to highly modified rebuilds. I am glad they're relatively close to me.

How long did you need to stay there in Indiana for him to rebuild it?

I wasn't sure it would make it there, was prepared to tow it if necessary.
Also, instead of a different re-build, Dave decided I'd be better off with a re-build of my original.

Plus he installed mounts, Rad and Steering rack that I bought and had delivered.
He had pricing on his website, standard re-build was 1875, plus core charge, plus 800 re&re. But you'll need a tranny cooler as well. can't re-use a cooler full of metal dust.
Hope that helps.
