Default ****Transmission Slippage****

I have a 2004 Monte Intimidator ss with 106k miles. Owned it for three months. I'm having a problem where, when I come to a stop, light or sign, and then begin to accelerate, it will sometimes hesitate and then jerk into gear. I brought it to the dealer where I bought it and naturally it wouldn't act up for them. They speculated that it may have something to do with "driving patterns" since I bought it used, I may be driving/accelerating differently than the previous owner. I call bull on that. I've replaced the tranny fluid and added in some Lucas, seemed to help temporarily but it's difficult to say seeing how it picks and chooses when it wants to misbehave. Just curious if anyone has any ideas as to what it may be....

It's your basic 4t65e-HD transmission problems.

Tripleedgeperformance.com has a great read on these.

Mine was starting to do the samething, just occasionally, once in a while when it decided it wanted too.

Like Mike said, its just the 4T-65E starting to go....

Mine was pretty much fixed by a performance tune that raised the line pressure in the tranny. IDK if it will stay fixed forever, but so far in the 12K that i've had the tune, its only done that trick to me once at a red light. Otherwise it shifts perfect. I'm at almost 150K on mine...

I was having this problem daily for a year or so on my 03 SS and I was convinced my tranny was on the way out. However it has almost entirely gone away when I had the MAF replaced three weeks ago. Has only done it once since then when I accelerated hard out of a light since I almost never do that. Doesn't make much sense but that's the deal with my ride. Some kind of crazy sensor mumbo jumbo could be a contributing factor.

I have 131k on my 03 SS and it does the exact same thing.Sometimes its great and sometimes it slips on take off. I decided to keep driving it until it does it on a consistent basis then fix it.

Is it terribly common for this model of tranny to act up and/or need replacement or are they supposed to be decent? If bad, why would they couple the 4t65e with a fantastic engine such as the 3800?

In 2003 they realized some faults with the 4t65e and heat treated the 4th clutch cylinder.

But a lot of it is just that the slower smooth shifts create a lot of heat and kills off the solenoids.
