We have one of those laser washes here in my town(basically a better than average touch-less wash for those that don't know). I use it for a few reasons...; to knock of loose dirt and dust and will look clean when done, I feel lazy that day, get salt off roads(glad that season in over haha), get the undercarriage cleaned up a bit, and maybe one or two more. Never use the auto machines with the spinning brushes, my fellow detailers and I call them the swirl machine haha, its basically like useing a old dirty rag in the shower that someone else used who you don't even know.. how gross(that's what its like for your car haha)

I ended up using a citrus based cleaner on my underside, And then soap and water.
Those touchless car washes use a Hydrofloric acid, which will eventually start causing corrosion in areas where the rinse does not wash thoroughly. It's very toxic to humans too, if you dont have the windows up all the way, you could get the vapors to ingest.

How do you recommend cleaning the underside if you don't have access to a lift? I don't want to take it to a regular car wash place that has a "bottom blaster" option - I always wash it at home or in a drive-thru place where only water and soap touch the car, no brushes or cloths ever. At the beginning of the wash cycle there's a spray that shoots up onto the underside but I don't know if that's enough to clean it completely. Here in St. Louis we have salt put on the roads about three times a year. Any advice on removing the salt?

I don't know if I buy that article posted.. ehow is a bunch of bogus stuff anyway, anyone can post an article there. The simple solution is go to the car wash and ask the attendant about the products etc.. or call the number if nobody is their. I know that all the products used at my local car wash are safe

Angie my plan is to place one side at a time on jack stands one in front one in back. I plan to use a long handle brush with something like simple green and scrub. Second step will be to use my mechanic creaper and slide under that side using a green scrubie pad if needed to get the tuff spots.
I do have some stainless that will reqire hand polishing
I am not kean on getting under the car with all sides jacked up. I also do not have ready access to a lift
