Engine bay pressure washing?
Has anybody pressure washed their engine bay in the monte carlo, and if so is there anything that needs to be covered like alternator, spark plugs, and sensors? I've been wanting to do this for years, but i don't wanna flood my engine or something. Any tips or experiences? :confused:

alternator n distributor caps doin mines real soon. and dont set the pressure on the hose too high |
I've pressure washed engines many times. The alternator is not "fragile", you can hit it was water no issues (I just don't recommend concentrating the washer on it). You just don't want to spray water up the air intake. Outside of that, anything under the hood is pretty much fair game.
If you aren't I recommend getting a can of engine degreaser before you do. Helps get the "grime" off. Lastly, when you are done pressure washing, let the engine run for a while (that will help parts of it dry off). |
whenever I clean up my engine bay I wrap plastic bags around the ignition coils & alternator for safety. Also avoid the intake. I use a regular garden hose, some small detailing brushes & a regular scrub brush. Also I use a little degreaser in my bucket with dish soap to help remove the gunk. Once I'm done I take a air compressor to blow out any water under the supercharger & by the injectors & the rest of the electrical.

Also,
Remember if you have anything freshly painted under that hood... Dont use that pressure washer on HIGH... It will blow that paint off in an instant...By then its to late!:eek: Im with Jen and Tad.... Degreaser, Soap Bucket ,brushs and a garden hose....:thumbsup: |
I agree I wouldn't use a pressure washer. Just use a Jose and degreaser and scrum. Once its clean wipe it down more often and you won't have to take the hose to it.

I've used Simple Green and a steam cleaner to clean the engine compartment.
