Sometimes my trucks windshield wiper motor will come on and I will pull the fuse for a day while it dries out.

Otherwise I use a solution of a car wash soap and warm water, an assortment of bushes and the garden hose.

My Monte's engine bay is already squared away so it's now just dry rags and some chrome polish and rubber conditioner etc.

Greg, I think you should fabricate a chrome fuse panel cover, too!!

Your right Josh, but as we write this you will just have to wait and see the fuse panel being made!!

Not going to be like anyone elses for sure. Being laser cut and thermal embossed. It's been at the shop for about a week now getting the proofs done, then on to production.

Did you notice the coolant overflow tank has been painted to a stainless steel look?

Here is my TEN STEP Method which works great.

Standard disclaimers: Not responsible for damage. Use at your own risk.
Not affiliated with the manufactures of the products mentioned in this post.

Step One: Lightly Spray / Mist down fenders, and nose of vehicle.

Step Two: On a cold engine: coat/spray ALL* underhood areas with Armor all or similar product. *
(Avoid spraying it directly on the belt or distributor.)

Step Three: Start the car and bring it to operating temperature.

Step Four: Let the engine cool for approx. 15 to 20 minutes.

Step Five: On the now warm engine: Use 409, Simple Green or similar household cleaner/degreaser
and spray on the entire engine compartment. Make sure you use even more on heavily soiled areas.
(Once again pay close attention of the Alternator/Distributor area)

Step Six: Let the cleaner sit for 5 minutes. If you let it sit too long it will evaporate and can stain
aluminum parts and you will have to start all over again.

Step Seven: Using LOW PRESSURE water, rinse the engine.
Make sure you do not hold the water on the distributor or Other electrical components for too long. Be sure that you rinse well.

Step Eight: Start the car and bring it to operating temperature.
Driving it for a while is good too, as you will be sure that all of the engine compartment gets dry.

Step Nine: With the engine off repeat step ONE.

Step Ten: Wipe off low or flat areas and any area where you might still see some dirt.
Wipe off all metal surfaces (some Armor All will remain) including the intake, Alt. and water pump.

Geez, always 2 (thousand) steps ahead of me!
Didn't notice the coolant reservoir at first, but nice touch! Big improvement from that nasty yellow :p

In all fairness, when I spray down any of my engines I never cover anything. Spray on a degreaser of your choice at the car wash, let it soak in for about 5 minutes on a warm still running engine, and hit it with the pressure washer. Using mostly glancing blows, nothing to direct on sensitive areas, other areas get more direct sprays. I have never been stranded yet. On my pick up sometimes the windshield wiper motor stays on, pull the fuse till it dries out and then back in business. After your motor is really clean, you should never really have to get on it again for a long time with a pressure washer, if you keep up on it's maintenance.
