Default Fuel assembly Pump tips?

HI everyone, first 'repair' post, probably won't be the last, but the MC's are awesome cars!

I'm going to attempt to replace my fuel pump, mainly because the gas gauge is non-functional. I found a YouTube video that was helpful, but any personal tips before doing so?

Pull the fuse and crank a few times to relieve pressure. Then disconnect battery.

Under the trunk carpet there is a simple access door.

Other than that, just try to keep a very clean work environment haha

Awesome, thanks - Does this typically fix the Chk Engine light?

Also by clean, do you mean, try not to spill gasoline everywhere?

What's your CEL on for? If you were having a misfire that was fueling related due to a failing pump, then this could fix that haha.

I mean keep it clean, you don't want any dirt getting on or in the new pump.

I read on here that the fuel gauge issue could trip the CEL light. I got a scan at Auto Zone, but they give 500 things it can be, so really useless.... I figured fix the obvious, and go from there. Do they sell consumer scanners that are accurate?

If the gauge is just jumping around, then nah. It won't trip a CEL

The code was P0463, I'll do a forum search on it, but is there a common issue with that code I can do first? thanks bro.

P0463 is the Fuel level sensor. That would go along with you fuel gauge jumping or giving bad reading so Yes the new fuel pump/sending unit should take care of the CEL.
As fare as doing the Job, Chibi is on the money about keeping it clean. I would only add that you should either purchase a new locking ring for the fuel pump or be careful with the existing one. They get some rust on them which makes them a little tricky to get off and can bend or even snap. Hopefully yours is rust free and doing the swap will be a piece of cake for you!!!

Thanks, yea I'm really hoping as well. Im going to check on a fuel pump ring removal tool, hopefully I can rent it!

Also I noticed I have codes P0141 and P0440, any of those scream a typical issue? Thanks much!!

P0141 is 02 Sensor (Bank 1, Sensor 2) I'm not sure were that sits on the exhaust.
P0402 is your Evaps system. I've found that usually that is a Bad Gas Cap. BUT, you should Also check your evaps canister, control switch and vacuum lines if you haven't already!
