GM Recall on 3800 3.8-liter V6 Cars
#21
I am usually a huge fan of GM but this just shocks me that they are almost saying the problem is from the clips and not the oil leak i dont get it.

You probably won't get the letter in the mail, but you already know about it. Just call up the closest GM dealership and try to schedule something.
I'm going to talk with some on Saturday when I go for my inspection.

Okay... my take.
The problem is where they mounted the spark plug wire clips, right under the valve covers on our Monte's, betwee nthat and the manifold.
I'm not worried at all about it. I doubt I'll even take my car in. For this to happen, first, the valve cover gasket has to leak. Second, it has to somehow run down the spark plugs wire to the spark plug, then somehow run down the spark plug and into the combustion chamber. There is a little gasket on that spark plug and it should be in tight ot begin with to keep elements out. Besides, I've seen cars run down the road burning oil... so it shoudln't matter. Plus, I've changed my oil and spilled some oil on the manifold. So bad one time, in fact, that I could not clean it and the next time I drove the Monte I had steam coming off the manifold. The car never caught fire.
If my car catches fire due to this recall notice, I'll just call it fate.

It's possible that the reason the recall doesn't affect 2004 and 2005 is maybe GM changed the type of gaskets installed at the factory.
I know that the lower intake manifold gasket problem on the 99 and up 3.4 litre engines caused GM to change their gaskets around 2004. It's possible GM did this to all their engines around the same time?

Plus there is something off about my car since the tranny work, so I'm making the same mechanic do my inspection and fix my steering wheel for free (it's not centered properly)
