Default Consumer Reports compares 1995 Z34 with Avenger, T-bird, Riviera

As part of my ongoing Monte Carlo info-collecting, I came across a few pages of interest from a 1995 issue of Consumer Reports. Yeah, back in a better time when big American coupes were still in style, 1995 saw the rebirth of the Monte Carlo as well as an all-new Buick Riviera, and Dodge revamped their Daytona into the Avenger. So Consumer Reports brought them all together along with a '95 Thunderbird for a four-coupe comparison.

They say a few good things and a few bad things about each car, but in the article, they called the MC's seats "lumpy" on three separate occasions! (Turns out they were testing the cloth seats, not the optional leather ones.) And apparently they didn't notice that the front seat belts can be slipped out of their headrest holders so you don't have to "duck under them" to get into the rear seat.

So even though the Avenger was the slowest of this group, it still scored the most points in their comparison, but in the end it was the T-bird that was their actual "recommended" pick. Truth be told, I like all four of these coupes... and am still happy with the one I chose.

Sidestreet, very interesting! I don't know all the changes Chevy did between this model and my 1999 Z34, but lumpy seats? I have the cloth seats (by choice) and I've always thought they were very comfortable, even for long drives. I always thought the ride was good. I still have the original shocks on mine and only now (after 222,000) is the ride deteriorating a little.
