So my flex plate cracked on the fly wheel costing me $700 at the dealership i purchased the car from and i only had 50,000 miles on it only mods i have for it is a cat back exhaust and my k&n intake system n also i put synthetic oil in it about a month b4 it had happen...and ever since then i have been experiencing lag when i get on it around say 20 mph when it used to jus take off around that speed any ideas or help for me on both issues why that happened n why its laggin now

 

I've broken TWO flex plates now. The 1st under warranty, and the 2nd mine. I now have a smaller, lighter torque convertor from ZZPerformance, and I'm hoping that helps. Next time I'll put in a flex plate from a Bonneville. They are thicker. Wished I'd known that before.

The lag, maybe plugs or wires? There is so many things it could be besides that. Dirty MAF sensor, dirty fuel filter. How does it idle? Dirty injectors. What kind of gas do you run? Brand? Not the cheap stuff, I hope! Any CEL's?

 

What are the symptoms of a cracked flex plate?

 

welll at first it idles high then it starts to come down say around 1000 rpms and i have never put a in nething less than 93 octane in it i usually go to sunoco or mobil but one interesting thing is my check engine light comes on and off last winter it was on n they said it was my maf sensor but it turned off in the summer n it came on once so far when its been cold out so i dnno pretty freaky

 

1st, take your car to Auto Zone to get the CEL checked for FREE. 2nd, my idle never changed. It sounded like a water pump bearing going out, and the fan blade rattling. Rattle, clank, rattle.
