Default Drop it or Pull it??

After a long time away from the forum due to a fire, I may soon be returning with another Monte Carlo, this time in White.

I am probably going to be purchasing another SS, but this one has blown a rod through the block. Its ok, I have another short block to take its place.

I am looking for some advice though from those who have pulled or dropped their engines....Which is the best way to do it? I have a good idea of how to do it to each, but which way is easier or more efficient?

We have enough room to pull it from the top

Pretty much personal preferance, can be done both ways but threw the top would be the easiest if you dont have a lift

I have done several front wheel drive cars and a mini van and I have done them through the top. I think without a lift it would be pretty tough.

This is a good original question I think. It probably would be easier to drop if you have the facilities for sure. So that poses the question is it worth renting a service bay? I am assuming other people have rentable do-it-yourself garages like we do in London. And I suppose it matters how fast your trying to get this done...

I would go out of the top. upside to the bottom is you can clean everything up while the whole subframe is out.

I've done more out the top than the bottom, granted only have done one fwd car out the top and one fwd out the botom....

Imho kind of depends on the room, time frame and all what you wanna do at the same time,

Either way your looking at alot of man hours
