Mod Wiz, with everything you've done to you Monte & being in theHigh Performance Parts Business, plus:D with your talentedability to jump `off the line fast : ). I think that your Monte should run in the 13 -teens and 99+MPH in a 1/4 mile.MEMBERS, what do U think ?(I posted this b-4, but it shows what Car & Driver reported on a 3.8 SC)[:-]I found the below test of a 3.8 SuperCharged 240 HP Monte Carlohttps://www.neodata.com/hfmus/cdri/print_subs.shtml] (http://ad.doubleclick.net/clk;10271539;6248432;e?http://www.caranddriver.com/assets/image/2006/Q3/81520069243.jpg[/IMG]Obviously, the biggest upgrade is what lurks under the hood—a Supercharged version of GM’s 3800 Series II pushrod V-6, which makes 240 horsepower at 5200 rpm and 280 pound-feet of torque at 3600 and is paired with a beefier four-speed auto. Compared with the standard SS, that’s an upgrade of 40 horsepower and 55 pound-feet.At the track, the Monte’s newfound power and chassis enhancements were evident. We ripped off 0 to 60 mph in 6.5 seconds and the quarter-mile in 15.1 at 93 mph, 2.1 and 1.5 seconds quicker, respectively, than the numbers put up by a standard SS 3.8(“Low-Impact Sports (http://www.caranddriver.com/comparisons/2851/low-impact-sports.html),” September 2002). My buddy Rob posted this on cardomain. This is basically a Stage 1 upgrade for the Supercharged cars.

WizAired Cold Air Intake (7/2/2004)
Hypertech 180* Thermostat (8/3/2004)
Intense Modular Pulley System - 3.4" SC Pulley (8/20/2004)
Autolite 104 Spark Plugs (8/20/2004)
ZZP Red Poly Motor Mounts (8/27/2004)
DHP v1.0 PCM (8/27/2004)
3"DP, High-Flow Cat, U-Bend and Resonator removal (10/13/2004)
ZZP WP UD Pulley (10/29/2004)
These modifications noticeably livened the performance of the car. The one that gave the most feel at the seat of the pants was the pulley swap to the 3.4". The boost jumped from 6-7psi to about 9psi on the stock gauge that reads up to 10psi.
On the last racing day of the season, I took the Monte to the track, and made sure I prepped the car well by removing the spare tire and jack from the trunk, and pumping up the rear tire pressure to 44psi. On the stock tires, I was able to launch pretty well off the line, and managed 13.836@101.01mph.
A few days later, I went to the same dyno shop for consistency's sake, and managed a 234whp/257wtq pull. That's a 40whp gain over stock for the mods listed above!

Space - Here's a ton of info on the 05 Honda Accords

http://autos.msn.com/research/vip/spec_engines.aspx?year=2005&make=Honda&model=Accor d&trimid=-1

A big key is they are between 3000 - 3250 lbs compared to the Monte being around 3400 - 3500.

I just got back from my local 1/8th mile track. It was my first time racing in a straight line. My best run was the last one. I had a nap at the light with a .226 R/T, 2.330 60 foot time and finshed with a 9.503@75.63 mph against a 92 5.0 GT. She is completly stock, so hopefully with a tuner I can get in the low 9's for an 1/8th mile track.

Wow!!! It's amazing how many of the pre 70's muscle cars the SuperCharged Monte's can beat. Much less those of us that mod, how many V8's we can completely spank!!!

I was curious on the 87 Buick Grand National with the same size 231 engine and it pulls 14.7 in the quarter... Glad I know I can beat that now too. :)

It's also amazing how fast the late 90's models do and getting the good gas milage they do. I'd say almost twice that the 60's vehicles did and in some models 5 times better gas milage.

I just made the 14.00 last night in the 77. Bumped timing/ a little weight reduction and jetted up the secondaries and pulled the 14 flat at 95.5.;) Second pass i tried without airfilter and damn thing obliterated the tires (255 70 15's ) all the way through first and into wheel hop and still managed a 14.6. Time for my drag radials ( 265 60 15) and i should see 13's. So heavy and aerodynamics suck. By the way my 1/8 mile time was 8.92.. that is telling me i should be good for 13.80-90.

Oh and i'm looking into bumping up the cam now too since this one doesn't seem to have the down track power i need.. maybe voodoo 268 or the next one up.. i think 274? i have all the requirements for the bigger cam.. 3000+ converter.. 9.75 CR 3.73s etc..

z34phoenix
05-06-2007, 03:00 PM
but you have to remember how bad the emissions and smog equipment was on those cars! delete all those and properly tune the carb and they will put down much better #'s. modern fuel injection and the need for fuel efficency is making more efficent engines that will smack down any of the muscel cars HP/liter any day. also with the introduction to unleaded gas the older cars dont perform like they should either.

who'd of thought my NA 3.4L DOHC could lay down a 14.9 @93.9 mph on just motor! no boost or nos... heck it has factory exhaust manifolds, cam, and cam timing also. time is down from high 15's factory!

well it may be true that you can outrun them on paper. but good luck finding a stock Grand National lol. you might find a few that are still stock, but those are probably show cars that wouldnt think of seeing the track and SURE wouldn't think about running you from a stoplight.

same way with all the muscle cars. you've gotta think that some of those cars are 25+ years old and have had at least 1 new engine put in them. and when most people rebuild an engine to put back in their car it's usually got something added to help it get down the road faster. if nothing else boring the motor (standard on a rebuild) will yield a few ponies and some more torque.

but the Monte in the original post has some pretty impressive numbers and pretty impressive mods too.

Yes actually I gained a fanbase that night... I had a good grudge match against an 06 mustang GT/CS with flowmaster type exhaust and CAI. I beat him 2 outta 3 .. i would chase him down in the 330 and be past him at the 1/8 and then he would try and catch up since his MPH was better but couldn't get me. He was in the consistant 14.1's @ 99 mph. It was some good racing and had plenty of people cheering me on to spank the stang. He also kept getting the jump on me a little at the light but early acceleration wasn't as good... Now its time for homemade lower control arms .. tighter slapper bars. and some other various things to try and make it to the mid thirteens.
