What Brand/model tires do you run?
 

Getting ready to buy some new tires for the SS. I want a "sporty"looking tire that handles solid, not mushy. I don't need a big name tire unless it's truly the best. What are you using on your Monte's?

I am also considering exposed white letters. Maybe even going old school with some Cragar SS wheels!

Back in the summer, I put a new set of Nexen CP672s on my SS. I've only driven it about 2,500 miles since, but no complaints.

Good luck with your search @GTHSS. I don't run sporty, but I put a set of Yokohama on my 04 GP and I have been happy with them.

I run nitto for my street tires on the Monte and focus st currently. They are great for a performance street tire and pretty cheap. The focus will continue to use them but the Monte is getting drag radials for the street. Tires of spinning haha

Since my l67 swap, I've run BFG KDW 2 tires on my monte. They hooked pretty well for a street tire and got reasonable mileage. If you're looking for a sporty 'looking' tire, it hard to beat the aggressive looking tread pattern. With that said, they've been out awhile and are a bit dated technology nowadays.

Now I've got Nitto Motivo tires since they came with the new monte SS wheels I picked up. They seem to just be a mileage tire from the little I've driven on them. They just don't seem to have much grip. But, they were basically free, so they'll be fine until I get a few maintenance items done in the car and start putting some mileage on it. Like turbo monte, my longer term plan is to just run drag radials up front.

On my vette, I run Michelin pilot super sports up front (IMO one of the best performance tires out there that still gets reasonable mileage) and Nitto NT05R drag radials in the rear. I'm very happy with both of those tires for what I do with them.

For street tires the Michelin "Defender" at Costco is hard to beat. About $20/tire more than BFG or others, but has a 90,000 mile warranty. It's a good all around, all season tire with great tread and handling. Costco also offers a road hazard warranty. They fix tread punctures free, and if the sidewall is damaged they replace that tire as well as the opposing one free regardless of the mileage as long as it is w/in the warranty mileage of the tire.

To the OP, one thing to keep in mind with these super high mileage rated tires is that there is a tradeoff for grip. You can't have a super grippy tire that also goes 100k miles, so it really depends what you plan to do with the car. If it's just a DD that you never really push to the limits, then a high mileage tire may just be the key for you.

I like to think of tires as a tradeoff some where on a triangle with price, grip, and longevity at the corners. As you move closer to each point, the other two categories tend to suffer. So it's all about finding that right balance for your needs. There certainly is no shortage of options nowadays.

No doubt, there are a lot of options. I trend more towards a grippy tire with good looks. My car is mostly a DD but some weekends I like stretching it out.

I have all good things to say about Michelin.

I currently have Pilot Super Sports on my Monte Carlo, 235/50R18. 30K mile warranty, ultra high performance summer tire, super quiet, noticeably more grip than the average all-season, I've logged roughly 9K miles without rotating yet and wear seems good; rears still look brand new on the tread surface.

I've had MXM4s on both my Cruze, 225/45R18, and currently my Malibu, 245/40R19 - both car's OE tire. 55K mile warranty, pretty dependable touring all-season tire with excellent wear - I purchased the Cruze used and the set of MXM4s on the car at purchase lasted the entire time I owned the car, roughly 79K miles, and they were still not fully to the wear bars.
