i poked my fingers around the current tires and i dont see how i can put anything wider on the front or back and keep the same circumference / radius the computer wants.

so if i can make up my mind on a wheel i thinking 245/45 18s.

Default Alternative Tire Sizes

I have a 2001 Monte Carlo LS and I have found it rather difficult to locate decent priced 225/60/16 tires. I went to a shop that sells used/new tires and one of the employees told me he has a set of 4 lightly used tires for $120 "out the door cost", but their size is 205/60/16, and he claimed they would work for my car. I myself am unsure that they would fit correctly on my car, but he said they could be "made to fit" my car. Is this something that would actually work, or should I just avoid it?

Technically it would work, but using 205s would throw off your speedometer at the very least, so I'd reject that deal. The 205s are shorter in terms of overall height.

It seems strange that you can't find "decent-priced" 225s; they're not such an uncommon size. When I was tire-shopping for my Z34, which also uses 225s, I found a good selection of brands and prices.

Check at Walmart I just bought some Douglas all season tires for the SUV I own and they were 235/65R/16 and I got them for 65.00 each new They also have Goodyears for about 25.00 more. Then you could check with a SAMS club too they had some Perelli's that were a bit less than the Goodyears.

OK, I couldn't open the section about about factory sizes.
First off, let me say that I know little about wheels and tires (I mean, I know if they are worn, and all that... but I don't know the advantages of the different sizes.)
My 2004 MOC SS has 16" rims and I just bought a 2001 SS and I see that it has 17" rims. I thought that was odd, since otherwise the car is virtually identical to the '04. The '01 did not come with an owners manual (I do plan to get one.) So my question is...
is the 2001 SS "supposed" to have 17" rims?

I'm also a new member here, and a new Monte Carlo owner. I have a 2005 SS, and I believe all the 6th gen SS's came with 17's. I am also researching for tires myself.

I actually wish I could get 15" rims and white-letter Cobra tires that will fit. But it seems that the rotors wouldn't allow for anything smaller than 16's, and it's impossible to find "classic" looking rims like the Outlaw series with the right offset and bolt pattern.

White letter tires that will fit the 16's and 17's and keep the same profile don't seem to exist.

For the white letters you might want to look in to the stick on style. They look pretty good and I think they begin near $65. and on up.

My 2004 MOC SS came with 16"... it was 4 or 5 yrs old when I bought it but I have no reason to think they were changed (it only had 16 K on it.)

Default Original yellow letter tires

I have a set of original yellow letter tires, not white letter painted, actual yellow letters tires. They were strictly stored, like not seen uv light most of their lives strict, rubber feels brand new, hydrated, rubber nipples still stretchy. Never mounted, stickers still on them. I’m in northern Alabama.
