New Rims or Repair stock rims?

4 Attachment(s)
Hey there!

I've got a question for you guys- Is there a way to repair my current rims or should I get new ones? If I get new ones, what looks good, and what will keep the value of my car if I ever had to sell her (heaven forbid)? The stock rims aren't bent or anything, but it appears a plastic layer or clearcoat is either peeling away or fogging up. The left front (first pic) is the worst of the 4. Check out the attachments..

There are shops that will restore wheels. My fiance got his 92 Z28 aluminum rims restored, not sure what he paid, but it wasn't cheap. I depends on how much you like your rims. I personally am a big fan of the 5 spoke diamond cut wheels I have on both of my cars.

How good are you with spray paint? Take em off, use a 3M sand pad to take off the current clear and use Duplicolor High Performance Wheel Coating on it

It's probably cheaper to buy new rims rather than refinishing your current ones. (Unless you do it yourself.) I'm not a fan of those wheels anyway. I have the same wheels on my 99 Z34, and the wheels are the only thing I don't like about the car.

I have these on my 98 Z34 and like them, but mine are in about the same condition. Been unable to find anyone to repair them for cheaper than buying new, so I may just wait until spring and put new ones on.

2002 Stock Rims

I just bought a 2002 SS - it needed new tires but I found someone selling the rims with some almost new Eagle RS-A's from an 2002 Dale Earnhardt Edition. The rims are identical to mine but have some clear coat issues - looks like gunk but doesn't come off.

Was wondering if it's possible to restore them by using a dremel to grind down to the aluminum.
