Looking for wheels on 6th gens!

So, I'm far away from doing this, but it's on my mind and I am trying to make up my mind. I want to ditch my stock 16" wheels at some point (get some nice 5 or 10 spoke wheels).

I want to keep the tire diameter the same as what it is now, but go to a bigger rim. I'm thinking about 17's at the moment.

I was wondering if anyone can share pics of there 6th gen Monte showing off some wheels going from 17's and up? I figure if I can see what others have done and what it looks like, it will help me in determining what I really want in the end.

Thanks gang!!

Bump....

Nothing? I'm just looking for some pics of 6th gen Monte's showing off different wheel sizes (and to include those sizes with the pic).

I'll start :)

Chibi, the I really like your wheels (and the entire car). The roof rails look sweeeeet!

The_Maniac 10-11-2010 10:17 AM

Chibi - Refresh my memory.... What size are the rims? 17's?

ChibiBlackSheep 10-11-2010 10:26 AM

18s :)

OK, now... Is the tire still the same diameter as the stock ones?

My goal in the end is to get a wider rim and keep the same wheel diameter (so I don't have to worry about the speedo and such needing re-calibrated) and as such, less sidewall.

BTW - I still like your rim swap! The stock ones we have just scream "get rid of me"....

The other pic I was gonna post was my sig. but you can see it nice there.

Tire size 225-40-18---Probably going to change to 235-40-18

ChibiBlackSheep 10-11-2010 12:02 PM

Yes they are the same size as stock for the speedometer.

sevnfoe 10-11-2010 03:03 PM

Ok these are off a 2005 monte ss and they are 17":D
I liked my stock but they hardly showed my break calipers so I got these they had like 3000 mils on them and I got them at a great price

The_Maniac 10-11-2010 03:41 PM

Thanks everyone. I think so far looking at Chibi's and Jaw's pics, I'm getting more and more sold on 18's (originally I wanted to leap to 17's).

ChibiBlackSheep 10-12-2010 08:42 AM

I was going to get a set of 17s myself, but the deal on these 18s were too good.

red04montels 10-12-2010 04:24 PM

not the best, but i picked up a whole set with brand new tires for $80 bucks and turned out okay.

Nice pick up for $80! I also like what you did with your grill in the front. That looks pretty sweet. Also, did you buy the spoiler aftermarket or is it stock?

I currently don't have the money yet, but I am REALLY leaning on a set of these in 18's:

These are two other thoughts I had (but I really lean on the first set):

i like the first set best too

i like the second set, but that's because im not a huge chrome fan.

I would be cool with polished aluminum, unfortunately, that style rim did not off that. So I completely see where you're coming from.

I felt the 2nd set (having the black painted surfaces probably don't look as sweet).

Eh, decisions I will have to eventually make when I save the $$ (or win the Lotto) :)

I like the 2nd or 3rd set mostly bcuz I've seen chrome on our cars with the silver ground effects & it looks weird! I hate it bcuz the ground effects looks soo "dirty" next to chrome. Personally I would get the 2nd or 3rd set bcuz they would somewhat match the ground effects & not knock anything outta sinc ya know

Nocturnx 10-19-2010 12:20 PM

I have the stock chrome 17's like Jomao. If I were you I would get 18"s and probably polished aluminum. Chrome is just too much up keep and peel when they get old.

jaws2008 10-19-2010 01:40 PM

First one.

Ive looked at these before..

But im probably going to end up finding and buying a set of 20s off of craigslist sometime. Much cheaper that way since there used and than I can just use my detailing skill as "refinish" the wheels to look like new

johnniep 11-04-2010 02:10 PM

Here's a very nice set of wheels that I think would fit the bill and the price is killer https://montecarloforum.com/forum/sh...ad.php?t=24594

AwesomeSS 11-24-2010 01:33 PM

I love the look of the chrome against an all silver car - if my rims were just painted silver, they wouldn't stand out.
