Looking for new Tires + Rims
 

I am really a newbie when it comes to self improvements to my car, but I am looking around for some new rims. I have stock 2000 LS rims now. When I change rims, do I just jack it up, and screw on different ones? if I get bigger ones, do I need to change something? I know I need to keep the stock ones for winter. Any help and suggestions are very much appreciated.

Yup, when you buy new wheels they'll have to be the right bolt pattern (space between and number of lug holes) and they'll probably come with different lug nuts depending on the wheel as some will need tapered, curved, or flat ended lug nuts. Changing anything will depend on how much bigger (or even smaller) you go.

I think 20" is usually agreed as being the max before we need to start making adjustments as long as the tires are still close to being the same diameter as the originals. Like having a 4" sidewall on a 18" wheel ends up at 26" tall tires (18+4+4=26) is the same to your computer/speedometer as a 20" wheel with 3" sidewalls (20+3+3=26).

You don't need to keep the stock wheels for winter if you don't want to. You could get another new set or even just use your new set year round. I prefer having my stocks for the winter though as I don't mind as much when they get dirty and don't get washed for awhile.

There are many knowledgeable people on this forum so if I'm wrong about something they'll correct me.

Good info God_bot. If you went to any local tire place they'd be able to tell you exactly what you need, I'm sure. Let them know you're not looking to buy, but just have some questions.

Another good place is Tirerack.com. Just select the correct info and it will list all the wheels that will fit your car. You can also get tires there mounted and balanced for free if you buy both the wheels and tires. They have a warehouse in Indiana so shipping wouldn't be too bad for you.

Hey if your looking for new rims/tires you should use this program, http://www.andysautosport.com/wheels/ as long as you have an updated version of Java you should be all set, it has any car and you can change the rims/tires, mess with the height, and tint, it is a pretty cool program.
