Looking to do a front brake upgrade on my 2004 SS. I read the 2006 Impala SS brakes are a good upgrade and comparable to the F body conversion. Has anyone else tried this? Rock Auto has a kit Z26 Street Warrior with pads, rotors and calipers for a good price, just not sure if these are a direct bolt on for the 2004 Monte Carlo SS. I would probably need the larger brake lines for an Impala, but the dual piston calipers should be a good upgrade.

No one tried this yet? Well not 100% sure if the 2006 calipers will bolt on to the 2004, but the bearing/hub is the same part # for both of them, so the rotors will fit on both, both are supposed to have a 12" rotor so I ordered the set, hopefully I'm 99% sure they will bolt to the 2004 spindles. I also bought a set of 2006 brake lines in case they are longer than the 2004. will keep you updated when they come in, might be waiting for spring to do the upgrade.

Update: I checked the spindle, 2006 CHEVROLET MONTE CARLO Dorman Steering Knuckles 697-910 is the same part # listed for the 2004 so it should be a bolt on, good upgrade from single piston to dual piston for a great price. Total cost including shipping and core charge was $368. That includes both calipers powdercoated red, Both drilled and slotted rotors, Powerstop ceramic pads, brakelines and hardware.

 

Hey man, I'm planning to do this upgrade too, but when I was looking for the part numbers on RockAuto I noticed some things which raise a few questions.

When comparing brake parts for a 2001 SS (my car) to a 2006 SS (with the dual piston calipers) I noticed they have a different part number for the brake pads and also the brake rotors. The brake pads being different is obvious since the calipers are different, so it's a no-brainer that I need to get the 2006 brake pads to match the 2006 brake caliper. The rotors however, I'm not sure about. You confirmed yourself that the spidnles are the same so I don't really know why they offer a different part number for a 2001 vs a 2006. They are both 11.9" rotors. In particular I am looking at the Raybestos Advanced Technology rotors:

EDIT: I also noticed the same thing for the rear rotors, different part numbers for 01 vs 06, despite everything being exactly the same back there, to my knowledge. Confusing!

 

It's Rock Auto. Assume everything they say is a lie. (Look up my thread about my battery cable for further explanation.)

 

Simple solution go to parts store and have them pull both parts and match them up. Obviously the calipers and pads will be different ,but is the size the same and will they bolt on ? The rotors are probably the same size but maybe one is thicker so it would use a different part # . If there close try them for fit before you connect the brake hose because until them you can return them because you gave them the wrong application. Worst that can happen is your out the 30 minutes you tried something for a performance upgrade.

 

Yeah looks like that is what I might have to do, I was hoping to hear from others who may have already done the R&D and can say for certain which rotor part number is the better choice.

Based on the specs on RockAuto it appears they are nearly identical with 11.9" diameter, 2.04" overall height, but they differ with 115mm vs 118mm bolt circle, not sure what that refers to. Seems I would prefer the 06 brake rotor for the increased thickness but even that is only a 0.07" difference.

 

I have all the parts still in the boxes, waiting for some warm weather here (they say snow/freezing rain again tomorrow) and I have th find a large EVAP leak first so I can pass inspection in MA!
I will let you know how things fit next time I have a chance to pull my front wheel. I got the 2006 impala set from Rock Auto because when I checked the Monte Carlo 2006 set did not have the caliper. That was a few months ago so they may have updated it by now, I'm not sure.

 

Not sure why it says 2006 is 118mm bolt circle, this chart on our forum shows 05-07 Monte Carlo SS as 5x115. (not sure why it does not have 00-04, since they are also 5x115. https://montecarloforum.com/forum/ti...pattern-18015/

Strange, 06 Monte Carlo and 06 Impala should be using the same parts. Unless they had a different set of parts for police duty or something.

 

Bolted everything on today and the 2006 Impala rotors and calipers fit like they were meant to. I also changed the brake lines to the impala ones as they have a left and a right, with different bends in the hard line.
