Help: sanding and polishing aluminum wheels

so i bought a set of 20" boss wheels, they are aluminum but are pitting around the spokes and the back. any tips on sanding them down and finishing them up with polishing? they do have a clearcoat on them so im assuming i'd have to strip it off first correct? :p

Try the mother's mag alum polish first :)

Depending on how bad the pitting is you'll need to use 150 or 220 sandpaper initially to remove the clear coat and (hopefully) the pitting. Then sand them again with 600/1000/2000 paper progressively to remove the sanding scratches. After they are smooth use your favorite flavor of aluminum polish to shine them up. Mothers used with a PowerBall works great.

they are boss 306's 20"x8.5
they have crappy tires on them, 245-35-20 no rub anywhere, so its all good but i need to figure out if i can save them first :(

zzapultimate 02-16-2012 07:11 PM

Probably not a whole lot you can do about the pits.. I would just try some aluminum polish and see how they look

They look pretty good, not sure what you can doa bout the pitting though.
