Drats...
Did anyone else run into this problem?, I ordered a nice set of american
racing wheels,Magnum 500, for my 87 mc. s.s., back wheels fit fine, but front ones wouldn't go on, the hub (spindle) is longer than the rim is deep. hub shaft is 2.6 inches long, and depth of rim cavity is only 1.8 inches long, mechanic checked wheel ass. stats., and it's the correct dimensions, he said g.m. has had this for many years, not enough length on drum bolt to use spacers, etc. I'm afraid to order any more wheels. If you can picture of what your issue is in the front wheel with the spindle I'm sure we can figure it out for you. I recently bought wheels for my project and I used 15 x 7 inch Bassett wheels with 3 inch back spacing , I am them running a 87 chassis. Sounds like you have a back spacing issue problem or the center of the wheel still isn't big enough because there is No reason you should need a spacer to get the wheel to fit on the rear end. If you need longer studs to fit thru the wide face of a wheel that's one thing but not a spacer to make the wheel fit. If you have more than 3.5 inch backspacing that might be your issue.https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/monteca...541b04da02.jpg

Thanks for your reply, there isn't any problem with the back wheels,my new wheels are also 15x7, I will look into your suggestion. Ken

I took a picture on how to measure backspace, I hope it helps. Anything more than 3.5 inches and you will probably run into clearance issues where the rim will hit the spindle.https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/monteca...f760b1935b.jpg
