does size really matter?
 

hey everyone. i want to buy new rims for my 03 ss but cant decide between 16 or 17 in rims.is there really that much of a diffrence for 1 inch? dont want to put nothing too big.want it to look classy. suggestions?

I woulldn't put anything smaller the 19s or 20s on a monte carlo, i have a 2000 and tried to put 17s with low profile tires and there was alot of space in the wheel wells (didn''t look good). I would only go that small if you put thicker tires on or lowered the car

I wouldnt go with anything bigger then a 17". Just the right tire that will match up to your stock so you can keep your speedometer correct. As far as the gap left from the new set, it will be mo diff if you use the same height tire. Now to fill the gap, just lower the car.

Just becuase you can stuff dubs on your car, doesnt mean that its going to look good.

I think 17's are a good fit. Also, pay careful attention to wheel weight...pay a little extra money for lightweight wheels and your suspension components will work much easier and not wear out as quickly.

Enkei makes cast wheels that are about as light as forged wheels and are reasonably priced.

I'd go with 18's if you can afford them. I'm guessing a 245-45-18 is the same size in height as your tire. That's what I'm running, but my stock tires are 235-55-17. I'm guessing 27.2" tall. Check on the Tire Rack site for more info, but the wheel size doesn't affect the speedometer, the tire size does. You want a tire that's as close to 27.2" tall as you can.
