bump steer

put a 1990 camaro center link on my 88 monte, cost 30.00 from amazon. had to cut 1 1/2" off outer tie rod, cut 1/2" off inner tie rod. i had a heavy duty outer tie rod, had to put it on the lathe and cut it to the diameter of the top of the threads about 1 1/2", then use a die to cut approx 1" of new threads. my buddy had chevy tie rods and they needed no lathe work. the tie rods are now level with the ground, look good, and bump steer is gone. now have to work on steering box.

learned that the outer tie rod holes are .050" smaller than inner, i had a inner tie rod that looked perfect in the outer spot (it even had right hand threads), cut a 1/2" off the threads, looked great, just the right lenth... but the threads only came thru the spindle taper seat with two threads, twenty five dollar lesson.

the 1990 camaro cente worked better than the $90.00 one from speedway, i shortened the inner and outer tie rod lenth by over 2" and they are level.

next project, 2" lowering spindles

last year on my 88 monte, i put a jeep steering shaft from steering wheel to steering box, has u-joint, no rag joint, really nice and cheeper than rag joint.

a little more info on the cenerlink fix, center the center link to the frame, i had to rotate steering wheel 180 degrees, came out perfect.
