Best kind of wheels for fwd monte Carlos?
 

Does anyone know what would be best? I want it to stick to the ground real good so im wondering would i need real wide wheels or bigger wheels in the front or bigger in the back... Im not an expert on this so if someone could give me some info about choosing the right wheels. :confused:

I'm guessing you mean tires?

Wheels, they're not really worth changing unless you're going for looks, tires on the other hand can make a difference, but everyone has their own preference so its hard to recommend something

Im getting new rims and tires. Doesnt wider rims give better grip?

In theory yes as you have more rubber in contact with the ground, but wider can lead to clearance and fitment issues. In my opinion the best option is to stay with stock width and go no bigger than 18"

Ok sounds good. Im planning on getting 17x8 or 17x7.5. I think mine are 16x6.5 so I think that would be a good size.

I'm not a wheel expert, but you have a few things to consider when talking wheels for performance:
- what is the lightest rim you can get (lighter means lighter car as well as lighter revolving weight.
- how aggressive is the tread on the tire?
- how grippy the rubber is (I believe that is the tread wear rating).

Biggest things wheels change is the ride and handling.

I went with moda 10 spoke 18" wheels wrapped in kumho ecstas. I really did not notice any changes (other then my monte looks awesome with then).

On a rwd car, some people tub the rear to put really wider tires on. Your rear wheels being drive wheels make sense for wider tires. On fwd, I would not go nuts, just get wheels that fit and look good.

I have 18x8 American Racing 'Casino' Chrome rims.
and the tires are Nitto 555's, 245/18ZR45.
They stick real good.


1st I had Dunlop, then I had Hankook V12's. Both wore out fast and lost grip when 1/2 worn.


But, since your car isn't the SS, you don't have the same stabilizer bars. I don't know if more tire will do you a lot of good.
