Question 16" or 17"?

Confused here.
My '04 MOC SS had 16" rims when I got it in '08, so when I got my '01 MOC SS this week I assumed it would be the same and I could use my old spare rims on my "new" car. But now I see that it has 17" rims. Wider tires, I assume not as high.

So... advantages/disadvantages of each? I am ignorant of these things. And can I use my old snow tires on spare rims (16") on the '01?

I do some highway driving, some back-roading (unpaved, could be rough/rocky/bumpy/steep, but generally fair) and very little city driving. Snow tires on by the first of Nov, off in late April.

What say you?

Your 2001 probably came with the high-sport kit, one of the features of that kit was 17" diamond cut wheels. You can use your 16s as spares, they will fit no problem.

Looks are the biggest advantage, a little extra sidewall on a 16 allows for a more comfortable ride, where a stiffer sidewall on 17s or 18s allows for a more rigid ride with less flex.

I appreciate that, BlackSheep. I wasn't looking forward to buying a whole new set of rims.
