Default How to?

I was thinkin about takin my engine cover off and painting it. But when I went to take it off, where the oil cap is located it has a lip on it and I couldn't get the cover around it, didn't try to hard, but looking for some advice and seeing if anyone has done this to a 3.9L

You have to take the oil filler cap off to remove the cover.

I know I have to take the oil cap off. I did that. But they tube where you put oil in, that you screw the cap onto, there is a little lip on it and I don't think the cover well come off because of that

Right you have to remove the tube itself...it just screws in there. Once the tube is out the cover will come off.

I found it easier if you loosen the oil cap and leave it sitting loose in the plastic filler neck. Then turn it some more using the oil cap for better grip. The back of the plastic engine cover should hook into a clip on the back. Just tilt it up, and pull it out toward you.

The plastic filler neck is actually just an extension piece. If you wanted to permanently remove the engine cover, you could just put the oil cap directly onto the engine without the extension piece.

i know the part your talking about, but mine don't do that. mine has a little "extension" on the oil cap so it sticks up high enough to keep the cover on.
