It's time to paint.

So we are moving along. First I took care of the mechanical problems. Then new wheels and tires. Then a new windshield. Spent 5 hours underneath using an air gun and aluminum oxide to try and get through some of the rust. Still a lot there. All I can do is kill it. I am not spending the money cutting it out and putting in new sheet metal. Car is now at the paint shop and the guy is doing a nice job. Bought two new front fenders from Evans-Fisher. Will let you know how well they work.

Getting rid of a lot of bird**** that ruined the finish.

Treating the rust with phosphoric acid will help kill it. It's available at your local box store in the paint dept. Look for metal prep.

The shop said they have something to kill it. I will inquire and ask, but they do a lot of very nice custom work. I am sure they know what they are doing. Thanks for the info though. I actually used a Gel from Lowes called Rust Reformer, worked pretty well. Just for kicks I sprayed it on the mags that came on the car and they cleaned up nicely, and I wasn't even trying. The best stuff is supposed to be Krud Kutter, about $140 a gallon, and may have the same stuff you told me about.

Hey thanks. I should have done that. Just been busy. Got to find a beater to drive now after spending all this money to have this done. Not parking this thing anywhere it can get dinged.

For those curious, the guy painting this car is a drag racer, and has two cars. A bracket car for fun, and an Outlaw Twin turbo 632 BB Chevy in a Nova. Runs 3.70s in the 1/8. No slouch. His name is John Taylor.

Taylor Autobody in Waynesboro, TN.

Yeah, me too! Was supposed to go in the booth Thursday but didn't make it. I was slammed yesterday so didn't ask if it made it. Never piss off your painter....lol. I have my beater to drive around now, so pretty happy about that. I was actually going to buy another MC LT, 2005, but it was in Knoxville and he couldn't work with me on the distance. Had a little paint peel on the hood but overall a real cherry. One owner with 124K miles for $2400. Interior looked brand new. TN car with no rust. So just happened to be browsing Facebook and found a 2008 Lucerne CXL in my 2nd favorite color - Crystal Red. It's actually a $600 option. Car was misfiring with PO300 code. Probably a coil or ignition module. And of course the old EVAP problem. So I have a mini project now too. This was a one owner car from right here in Middle Tennessee. Managed to score it for $2600. I am thrilled. Nice ride for an old fart.
