Finished Painting

Finally finished painting silver around the bottom to separate all of the blue. I think it turned out great! Next project is rims or some cool vinyl.

Nice job! The silver is a great accent.

I think some Jeff Gordon Edition flames would look "Cool", pun intended. Lol.

But now it begins you will be like the rest of us and be looking for things you can do for upgrades. :rotfl:

Just a standard Krylon silver metallic. I'm a little nervous about the paint chipping or peeling using spray paint, but it looks quite good for now.

Turned out great!

Looks great! Blue and silver was always a great combo on these cars!

Paint chipping/peeling is usually subject to the prep work. Of the prep work was good, then even a rattle can make a great and long lasting paint job!

Looks nice

fatfig 11-02-2015 06:07 AM

like it, just should have taken them off and bought the parts to a local body shop, They could have done it for cheap price and would have to worry about the paint chipping

owens91 11-02-2015 05:20 PM

i hope you added a couple coats of clear so it will last alot longer

crazyzach722 11-03-2015 12:08 PM

Nice job, it is like how I did mine with black. Makes a big difference.

Thanks, I just took a look at yours - very nice car. The color certainly separates all of it. It makes quite a difference. It's a completely new car to me!

owens91 11-03-2015 08:11 PM

how did you do that? i want to do mines but im worried about over spray, did u just tape and newspaper the rest of the car off?

That's exactly what I did. I used duct tape to line off the body line and masked the rest of the car using paper. I was quite nervous but it was actually really easy and it turned out great. So far no issues.

owens91 11-04-2015 08:13 AM

Did u do this outside or inside a garage?

Onion39 11-04-2015 08:56 PM

Outside. Everything that a professional painter probably would've done I did the opposite :p

Onion39 11-07-2015 05:05 PM

Update - don't be the dumba** that I was and completely wing the painting process. I should've some more effort into this....today I noticed the paint was already starting to chip and water marks were on it. I washed the car and the paint didn't come off but the water marks stayed on. Dumb idea. Maybe should've put a ton of clear coats on top of it.

owens91 11-08-2015 10:05 PM

Did u add any clear coats?

Duct tape? Didn't that leave a sticky residue behind when taken off?

Not at all

pob374 01-18-2016 02:52 PM

I love the idea of vinyl, but I worry about the paint after.

plumbob 01-19-2016 08:54 AM

Hi Onion. Hope everything works out, but just thought I'd share this website that offers high quality automotive spray paint in a can in case you decide to try again. Nothing compares to a professional spray booth job, but for the do it yourselfer, this stuffs pretty good. I've used it for bumper touch ups and mirrors. The basecoat colors are an excellent match. They also offer plastic adhesion promoter and clearcoats, including a 2K Urethane type.

Very nice. Mine is white with the black trim already. It's nice to break up the one color. My car is exposed to the harsh midwest winters, so I'm planning on getting a new paint job later this year. Same color and everything, just needs fresh paint. Man do I wish I could do it myself.
