Racing

Before I modified my Monte Carlo it had the normal 112 limiter. Have you ever been in a race where you couldn't catch someone cuz of your limiter kicking in? This guy was in a late 90's mustang gt. I think stock other than being ridiculously loud. We raced and he got ahead once we hit a 100. Then was ahead for like 2 miles and I was like no way is this happening. I didn't want him to think he had won so I followed him on a little but till the road came to a corner causing us to slow down. Once thro the corner I was back on him going about 40 then hit gas and just smoke by him with ease. I was happy I could prove my point lok

No never been in that situation racing. That would suck to not win because of the factory settings. Nice you recovered and pulled away... :)

also remember safety first

Haha yeah I am careful. Just love the feel of street racing. Usually only race up to the speed limit or a few over but we were only ones on road and figured ehh why not

turbo monte 01-26-2014 08:58 PM

I've never had the factory limiter make me lose a race but then again that was one of the first things to go on turbo Monte and my daily driver is a 2013 focus st which don't shut off till 155mph from factory so I'm good there lol.

Enzo354 01-26-2014 09:02 PM

I can't say I've ever sat on the limiter for 2 miles.

04 SS/SC 01-26-2014 09:34 PM

Lol I wasn't limiting it out while time once I hit I stayed a little under 112

STUMPMI 01-26-2014 10:29 PM

The MCF in no way shape or form approves or promotes, condone's any kind of street racing ... Don't do it!! :nono:

However, Jason.. (Maniac)
Can However, remove the speed limiter... There for allowing your Monte to run full out. Feel free to contact him or check out his post.

Lol I said before my car was motified my signature has my most of my mid list. I no longer have a limiter...

dbaldwin 01-27-2014 10:01 AM

We have a limiter at 112? Iv hit 115 and 120 against a cobalt ss..... im gonna have to try that again. I also shift at about 6500 rpm when I floor it. Im starting to feel these arnt normal behaviors....

04 SS/SC 01-27-2014 10:14 AM

My car did when it was stock. Supercharged cars my be diff idk. But that was factory that was one of the first things I got rid of lol

dbaldwin 01-27-2014 10:19 AM

This car most definantly was not stock when I bought it. It has had 10 owners (mostly auto auctions). So its had alot of work and Only way I can find out what is by trial and error. Like the first time I raced another N/A 3800 and kicked its but. I Wonder if it's been tuned?

04 SS/SC 01-27-2014 10:21 AM

It's possible no way to tell really then take it to a shop like zzp and have them look at pcm or send it in. With just a tune I don't think you would smoke the same car untuned. May win but with nothing else done to your car would be weird unless he sucked at driving

The speed limiter varies just a couple of miles based on certain conditions detected by the PCM. But in general, stops around 110mph, so if you hit 120mph, I think that suggests heavily that something (if only the speed limiter) was altered.

If I follow, you're say two of the same Montes, one with only a tune and the other without a tune you feel should still be equal in a race? Most cars from the factory have a very generic tune on them. In the right hands, a stock vehicle still has room for improvement (some of that is just tuning it for your location, such as atmosphere and elevation). Also, since these transmissions are driven heavily by the PCM to control line pressure and shift points, that too can help add to that change.

I'd say there is a chance (may not be a huge one), that a tune could give a driver a slight edge in a race.

Maniac if you read my post over again you can see I stated I don't think it would "smoke" one thats untuned. Didn't say it wouldn't be a little better but not going to make him smoke a untuned monte. And he said he smoked one. So just saying pry something more going on.

Pretty sure its more than just a tune. I may never know exactly what was done.

04 SS/SC 01-27-2014 11:10 AM

Well once you start modding you will pry figure it out as you go.

OK. Sometimes it's tough reading comments on the Internet to determine to what degree someone meant by certain terms. :)
But you point makes sense. :)
