Ls4 Swap?
I’ve been thinking about making my 2000 Monte Carlo LS into a sleeper and putting the Chevy LS4 in it. I’ve heard that it would work best and that it should have pretty much the same motor mounts and be moderately easy (as easy as an engine swap can be that is). I was just wondering if anyone has done this or knows someone and can tell me if it worked or any pointers. Much appreciated to all! |
Curious the context of those who said it would work the best. The best for what?
Have you considered a 3800 swap? I'd think that would be the easiest possible swap as your year came with them stock. The LS4 certainly sounds better and has much better low end torque stock. But otherwise, a 3800 is much more common in junkyards and can be modded beyond the power level you'd ever want to deal with given limited fwd traction and the 4t65. If you're really set on an ls4, have you considered just buying an LS4 car? They're getting pretty cheap nowadays. Certainly it can be done, just making sure you've considered all the options available. |
I also agree that a 3800 swap would be way easier than a ls4 swap and that you can mod a 3800 way easier and make great power with them also!

My point was that a 3800 would be even easier yet - almost as easy as a stock replacement engine. It literally bolts in and plugs in (with the appropriate stock harness). |
Yea I would also suggest just modding the 3800.. Weigh out the pros and cons and "possibilities" and youll quickly see the v8 swap might not be what you actually want to do..
