FWD vs RWD
I read that the older Z28 (1996 and earlier) are even with the 5.3L V8's 0-60 & 1/4mile; but I have several people telling me that whenever two cars are about close in numbers like that, the rear-wheel drive will always beat the front-wheel drive in a race.
Is this true & if so, why?
I've never driven a RWD.

I dont think which end of the car the drive wheels are on will make much of a difference in speed. Power and gearing are just as effective in the front as they are in the back. If two cars are even on the street it usually comes down to two things (three if they are sticks but thats obvious), they are wheel spin and reaction time. You can have the same amount of power, weightand same gears but if your wheels are spining and the other guy's wheels are glued to the road, the other guy will win. Also, If you have the same power, same gears and same weight and bothcars dont spin andthe other guy gets off the line a little quicker than you than you will probably lose.
i'd think it would be the other way around. FWD puts a little moer power to the wheels because ti ahs less U-joints and the crap to go throught to get the power to the wheels.
Even though that is what stats say for 93-95 Z28's they runs very low 14's in reality. There are very few differances in pre 96 and after 96. I believe just a different exhaust system and maybe the intake system is a little better. Only a 10HP differances not going to make that much of a differance. If I had a 5.3 I would ran it. Personaly I like RWD cars better. They are funnierIMO
depends on if you are talking about wheel horsepower or from the crank. from the crank, I would give advantage to the FWD due to the parasitic loss of the driveshaft, UJoints, etc. Kinda like the AWD vs 2WD...AWD has the advantage of the launch in the beginning, but with a rolling start, the parasitic loss sort of handicaps the AWD cars.
I still personally prefer the RWD cars, I like the rear to drift out as I mash the throttle

a front wheel drive car needs less engine horsepower to get the horsepower to the wheels than a rear wheel drive car does, less distance to go, however any big muscle car guy, or drag race person would rather have a rear wheel drive car, i love having my magnum because its rear wheel drive, it just feels better in my opinion...but the front wheel drive car needed less hp to get to the wheels, loses less in the traveling
personally i like rwd a little more
