Default 86 monte carlo cl vs hyndai sonata

A guy that i work with keeps telling me that his hyundai sonata 4 cyl will outrun my 86 monte carlo cl. Im pretty sure that i can beat him but i just wanted some other opions so that nothing embarrassing happens if i decide to race him.

He could possible beat you depending on what year the sonata is. New cars are alot quicker lately because of the 5 and 6 speed transmissions they are using.

The regular sonata has 200 horsepower and the turbo has 274. He would probably win! It sucks that the old muscle cars are so weak by todays standards. My dad has an 85 with 42,000 miles on it bone stock. It runs good for a 305 but its no car to race with.

Ya with only 180hp (Monte) the Sonata probably will win.

well thanks guys I knew the horse power would be close because his is just the standard 4 cyl. Maybe ill just have to bore it out, put a stroker kit, hotter cams and replace the heads, then ill race him.

You're talking about the 2011 Sonata. The 2010's and under don't have that much power, but I think you would have to go up against a Sonata that's at least 10 years old before a Monte Carlo with a 305 could beat it.

Don't bore, stroke, put in a better cam (you only have one), or anything else to the 305. If you're going to be that serious about increasing hp, just swap in a 350 and work on that. 305's aren't worth anything.

The thing is, your car is way cooler! I wouldnt do anything to it. Keep it all oringinal and buy something else to play with. My dad had his 85 with 42,000 miles appraised when he bought the 07 ss and it was valued at 12,500. Thats a lot of money for a 85 ss, but it is like mint.
