Not to discourage but you could probably almost get a V8 F-body (that needs a little work) for the price youre going to pay for that chain, if you can even find it. Ok thats a bit of an exaggeration but I wanted to point something out. Ive been following your other thread on the subject and want to mention something that I never really see anyone else mention.

Theres two problems with these 4t65 transmissions. They can fall apart or break with too much power. Thats the problem you want to address with the GMR parts. However, they also seem to wear out prematurely or at random times. Stronger parts cant fix that. They might help a little bit. They might completely prevent the premature wear but youll just never know.

I think it comes down to how well they get rebuilt. You have to really trust that whoever is doing the rebuild is doing it 100% and knows these transmissions well.

Not knocking you - it's worth a try to search everywhere you can if you're after one. But I don't think we've ever had one sell on here. Actually, I think we've only had 1 member ever actually own one (turbo monte) - and he's long since sold his car. Just dont want you to get your hopes up that you'll get any response here.

Where I'd search based on where I've seen them sell before:
-GrandPrixForum
-3800Pro
-3800 Performance (Facebook group)
-3800 Marketplace (Facebook group)

I know its a pain, but if you're really serious about getting one - Id join them all to put feelers out. There are other smaller groups as well that have more high end builds, but often people are on multiple groups - and these are some of the most heavily visited. Id also poke around to look up recent sales of them so you know about how much to expect.

Supply is definitely drying up. The chances of finding a new one is virtually zero today (and if you did, it would probably cost as much as a whole Fbody as whtmonte said).

Used ones still come up, but they're pretty rare. It is easier if youre not picky on which chain pitch/ sprocket ratios. Id bet I only see maybe one or two come up each year, and about half the time they're in a transmisison with other used parts you may or may not want.

By putting feelers out though, you may get lucky and find someone sitting on one. Plenty of people have bought them for a project that they never finish / lose interest in and just sit on the rare parts as they accumulate value each year. Of course there are also people casually interested in buying if one does pop up, so they usually go quick.

My only other suggestion is to have the cash liquid and ready to send ASAP. Theres probably 10x the number of posts about people looking for one than there are selling one - so they tend to go fast (and be very marked up) and you'll likely be competing with others if someone says they're willing to sell.

That is a good point. When you get to really extreme (relative to the base design) levels, there is an element of proactive refreshing to keep things in good shape. At the height of W body drag racing, it wasn't uncommon for the shop sponsored cars pushing the limit to pull them apart after each race season. Id bet the GMRacing car that these high end parts came from pulled it apart more often than that as there was money on the line for them.

You'd also hate for some ten cent part to wear out and trash thousands worth of high end hard parts.

It does really depend on use though. Ive seen people build 500, 600+ whp wbody cars that literally just cruise it car show to car show on 300+ tread wear street tires. With that kind of use, its no more harsh than a stock car. Some of those people are lucky if it sees WOT once a year. Then of course you've got others that practically live at the drag strip.

wht02 and bumpin', thanks for the thoughts. Yes, I know it doesn't make any logical/financial sense to try to do what I'm doing. Heck, I'm 50 and still play D&D, so no one ever accused me of being normal lol!

Now, I'm not just going to waste a bunch of money and do silly things like blow up transmissions. Not on purpose, anyway.

I've started to scour some of the other forums and I'll look into the FB pages. Dave from Triple Edge has given me someone to contact as well regarding tuning to reduce the strain on the trans when it shifts.

I'll keep working on it. Thanks guys!

That's good to hear. I figured they'd do whatever they could to put you on the right track.

I think that turbo kit comes with a shift kit too which should help things as well. These transmissions hold power well in gear with good frictions, but leisurely shifting at full power can burn stuff up pretty quick.
