At last! All missing Brickyard 400 Pace Car decals restored.

I'll probably never understand why someone would make a special-edition car look like a regular-production car (usually it's the other way around), but that's what happened to my '95 Monte.
I don't know if it was one of the previous owners who did away with most of the Pace Car decals, or if it was actually the original Chevy dealer who decided to; but their "reasoning" kept my Pace Car from looking as beautiful as it always should have.

Here's how it looked, just a few days after I bought it in 2015:

Like all 5th-gen Montes, long, smooth, and lean. The Pace Car editions didn't come with the body-side molding strips, so it looked a little plainer than usual with all that clean open space on the sides.

But thanks to a connection I made here on the Monte Carlo Forum, I obtained a spare set of the original(!) decals from a new member who was parting with his own Brickyard 400 Pace Car; and then, I commissioned a local auto graphics specialist to apply them to my car professionally.

And this is how it looks now! :happyanim:

Now, it looks complete. Now, it looks beautiful.
Now, it looks like it always should have looked!

Got to admit, though, it's now the most conspicuous-in-traffic car that I've ever owned; but that's okay, since it also means I'm driving something special, and something genuine, too. Color me proud! :chevy:

Looks Nice.

Looks great. Maybe the previous owner had a decal that pealed some and he couldn't figure out how to get a replacement for it. Some folks just don't get it?
One thing that may be interesting. They make a Purple type anodizing paint, when you paint it over the Chrome it looks like purple Chrome. Might look kool on the Bowties on the wheels. I used the Red version on the bowties on my wheels. Made them look real sharp. Just an idea.

Looks awesome!!! Glad it all panned out and your car could be brought back to it's rightful glory!!!

I have a friend with an '89 Turbo Trans Am (one of 1,550 car built and it was the official Indy Pace Car in '89). He learned that the decals for those cars was part of the dealer prep, they were not put on at the factory, instead placed in a tube for the dealer to put on (or give the first owner the option if they wanted them on or stay in the tube). When he got the car, it has the decals on it.
Another point of interest, the previous owner of his '89 TTA took the original plug wires off and put aftermarket ones on. Reason, the plug wires have the Firebird phoenix all over them (good luck ever finding those babies again). Luckily, they were included in a box of items for his car.

Sorry, did not mean to de-rail. But those pics are great stuff!! Lots to be proud of!!

My '03 pace car I bought it used in '07, it did not have the pace car decals on it at all? but all the other badging? witch was fine with me, looked a little busy with all that to me anyway!! but I was always curious if the first buyer ordered it this way or what? the car was a company lease out of Indiana when new and I bought it from car max in '07 with 37,000 miles on it, shipped to my store from south Carolina. it also has a stick on carbon fiber trim kit on the dash and door panels that ive never seen on another one!! research shows no big wreck of any kind but it had the lower galaxy silver rockers repainted before I got it because they oversprayed onto the front frame and front lower spoiler??

Your car looks fantastic Sidestreet! I'd say it's probably my favorite fifth gen Monte now and you got some good competition. I'm really happy you pursued this!

You should post more so we can vote you into the Monte of the Month calendar...

That looks astounding; probably my favorite versions of the 5th gen were those Brickyard pace cars. White and purple looks clean and classy. What I've never noticed (and it's apparent since your car is so extra, squeaky clean) is that the wheels are painted white with a chrome lip - the absolute best version of those style rims I have ever seen. That came out amazing; I've never seen a Brickyard car with brand spankin' new decals. Really, really well done.
:congrats:

Yes, it's interesting, Hemmings has five '95 Brickyard 400 Pace Cars for sale right now, and actually each is cleaner and with lower miles than mine... so I'll keep mine as clean as I can (I wish I had a garage for it; gotta park it outdoors for now), but those others can go ahead and be the perfect-example museum-pieces if that's all their owners want them to be.

Yeah, Skippy, it's rare to see a white car with white wheels anymore, esp. a Chevy. It was a '90s style thing, and actually Pontiac got pretty deep into it with optional "color-keyed" wheels for the Grand Am, the Grand Prix, Bonneville... even the Trans Sport minivan! But I've always liked it; it's a simple change that helps a car look cleaner and more cohesive, style-wise.
According to at least the '97 Chevy brochure, the white wheels could be ordered up for any white Z34, but not for a white LS, even though the LS could otherwise get the same 16" alloys... so the white wheels weren't necessarily exclusive to the '95 Pace Car Editions. (Interesting trivia.)

With the '95, there's the '98 with that super-bold coat of yellow-orange, and the green '99 even has cartoon Taz tearing up the back! Call me a little biased, but among these three, I think Chevy graphics did the nicest job with the '95. :D

I agree. I think a combination of the '95 graphics and the yellow-orange-fade-to-white of the '98 would look really cool, but as they made them, the '95 looks the best IMO
