1983 monte carlo windshield wiper arm broken
 
I cannot figure out how to take the old wiper arm off on my 83 if anyone can give me detailed directions that would be awesome thanks

There is a nut hidden under the end of the wiper arm where it attaches to the shaft. Lift the end of the cover (it is hinged) to expose the nut. After removing the nut curl your fingers under the end of the arm and pull up.

Not on a 4th gen! There is a small tab(some have one some have 2 that are spring loaded) that you need to get a small flathead screwdriver under and pry out(wont come all the way off,,)

Doh! That's right - I forgot about GM's (short lived) experimenting with those funky spring loaded release clips.
