Official Indy 500 thread
Ok, its pretty late to start this thread. But why not? This is when I sit down around the tv/ computer.
I seldom watch Indy Car racing. But I always watch the 500. I recognize a lot of the drivers, but meet most with indifference. I always say that to enjoy a sport, you need to want someone (or one team) to win. And it helps if there is someone you want to lose as well. And it is with that in mind that I suggest we make some picks! Here is a full look at the 2014 Indianapolis 500 starting grid: Row 1: No. 20 Ed Carpenter No. 27 James Hinchcliffe No. 12 Will Power Row 2: No. 3 Helio Castroneves No. 77 Simon Pagenaud No. 25 Marco Andretti Row 3: No. 34 Carlos Munoz No. 67 Josef Newgarden No. 21 JR Hildebrand Row 4: No. 2 Juan Pablo Montoya No. 9 Scott Dixon No. 26 Kurt Busch Row 5: No. 98 Jack Hawksworth No. 19 Justin Wilson No. 7 Mikhail Aleshin Row 6: No. 10 Tony Kanaan No. 11 Sebastien Bourdais No. 16 Oriol Servia Row 7: No. 28 Ryan Hunter-Reay No. 15 Graham Rahal No. 18 Carlos Huertas Row 8: No. 63 Pippa Mann No. 14 Takuma Sato No. 68 Alex Tagliani Row 9: No. 6 Townsend Bell No. 83 Charlie Kimball No. 5 Jacques Villeneuve Row 10: No. 33 James Davison No. 41 Martin Plowman No. 8 Ryan Briscoe Row 11: No. 22 Sage Karam No. 17 Sebastian Saavedra No. 91 Buddy Lazier I'll pick 1. Hunter-Reay wins! His first Indy 500 win
Kurt Busch finished 6th - not too shabby. That ties the record for the best finish by any driver doing the double (Indy500/Coca-cola600). We'll see if he can beat Tony's finish of 3rd in 2001 after he finished 6th in the Indy 500. I'm really cheering for him. Peblo finished 5th. He blew it speeding on pit row under green. Reminds of that time in SprintCup that he swore on the lives of his wife and his child that he wasn't speeding on pit road, but they busted him in 3 zones |
I listened to the radio broadcast as I was working on my grandparents farm. I'm used to that though as I've spent many Memorial Day weekends in Indiana where the TV broadcast is blacked out. Very exciting finish.

Why on Earth would they black out the tv broadcast in Indiana?!? it was a pretty good finish
|
They've done it for as long as I can remember. Basically to encourage local attendance of the race.
