After all the hype, bench racing, wintertime thrash sessions, and internet forum BS that has transpired in anticipation of the greatest street car racing road trip ever conceived by man, we are merely weeks away from seeing who actually shows up to throw down. Drag Week has a cap of 250 entries. 24 pre-registered competitors have already dropped out. There’s still a 150-person long waiting list to get in on the action, which kicks off at Beech Bend Raceway on September 8th. We cannot wait to see what Drag Week veterans have up their sleeves for the newcomers looking to prove themselves against the ultimate test of street car supremacy. Drag Week has new sponsors including Granatelli Racing, which is hooking up the Street Race classes. Pep Boys Auto Parts is co-sponsoring the event as well as the live streaming video feed of every minute of race action. MSD, Comp Cams, NOS, Rockett Brand, and QA1 are also back so you know the prizes for the class winners will be epic and useful. We are also ending the first leg of the road trip with something special, a big ol’ cruise on Monday September 9 from 4-9 PM at the Metropolis Mall parking lot in Plainfield, Indiana. The locals are rolling out the proverbial red carpet for us with reserved parking spots in front of the Barnes and Noble store , located a few miles away from Lucas Oil Raceway so racers should leave the place with carpal tunnel syndrome by the time the cruise ends from all the autograph requests. In addition to the slew of restaurants and shops to visit we also have a special activity planned for racers who make it on time.
