For his first career Sprint Cup victory, Menard held off a charging Jeff Gordon to win by .725 second in a Richard Childress-owned Chevrolet. Regan Smith, Jamie McMurray and Matt Kenseth completed the top five. Carl Edwards (14th) leads Jimmie Johnson (19th) by 11 points.

Also: Kenny Francis will join Hendrick Motorsports as Kasey Kahne's crew chief next season. Lance McGrew will move to a research and development role . . . Todd Berrier was replaced as Jeff Burton's crew chief by Luke Lambert . . . Travis Pastrana's Nationwide series debut was postponed after he suffered a broken right foot and ankle in the X Games . . . Team executive Cal Wells left Michael Waltrip Racing . . . Don Naman, the first general manager of Talladega Superspeedway and a founder of the International Motorsports Hall of Fame, died at age 76 . . . Crown Royal will become title sponsor of the Brickyard 400 next year . . . In the World of Outlaws, Paul McMahan won Friday night at Brockville Ontario Speedway in Canada. Jason Meyers won Saturday night at Autodrome Drummond.

</TD></TR><TR><TD style="PADDING-BOTTOM: 3px; PADDING-LEFT: 3px; PADDING-RIGHT: 3px; PADDING-TOP: 3px" bgColor=#cccccc>NASCAR Sprint Cup Series</TD></TR><TR><TD style="PADDING-BOTTOM: 5px; PADDING-LEFT: 5px; PADDING-RIGHT: 5px; PADDING-TOP: 5px">David Ragan won the pole Saturday at Indianapolis with a 182.994 mph lap. Denny Hamlin started at the back after an engine change and Martin Truex Jr. the same after a transmission swap. Sunday, Kasey Kahne took the lead on lap one. Kurt Busch bounced off the wall in the early laps and Joey Logano got bumped sideways by Dale Earnhardt Jr. on lap five but he saved the car. Trevor Bayne was forced to pit on lap six to clean his grille of debris. Kasey pitted under green on lap 26. Jeff Gordon led for one lap before pitting and, after the sequence, Kahne was the leader. Tony Stewart got a drive-thru penalty for hitting the pit entry cone. On lap 34, there was a debris yellow. Kahne and Gordon didn't pit. On lap 46, Earnhardt had to come in to clean his grille. He stayed out on a lap 50 yellow for David Reutimann and picked up the lead until Gordon passed him on lap 61. On lap 94, there was another debris yellow, and Matt Kenseth emerged from the pits ahead after taking just two new tires as Gordon dropped to fourth. Paul Menard didn't pit and was the leader. Jimmie Johnson bumped with Brian Vickers on pit road and got some right-front nose damage. Kenseth passed Menard. Kyle Busch brushed the wall and the yellow waved. Juan Pablo Montoya took only two new tires and came out ahead of the pack but Brad Keselowski didn't pit and led. With 41 laps to go, Landon Cassill spun in turn three in heavy traffic, causing a caution. Kahne and Kurt Busch went through the grass and got front-end damage, as did Carl Edwards. Front-running cars would need one more refueling stop to make the finish so, beginning with Kevin Harvick with 31 laps to go, final stops began. Johnson came in one lap later and then Keselowski and several others the following lap. Earnhardt pitted with 28 laps left, then leader Clint Bowyer the next time around. Gordon stopped with 26 laps remaining and then Ragan the following lap. Stewart stayed out as long as he could. Menard took over with 15 laps to go. Jamie McMurray passed him with eight laps left, and then Menard made the winning pass with four laps to go in the 160-lap distance. He averaged 140.762 mph with five yellows for 22 laps. There were 22 lead changes among 13 drivers. Stewart finished sixth; Keselowski ninth; Kyle Busch 10th; Harvick 11th; Edwards 14th; Earnhardt 16th; Kahne 18th; Johnson 19th; Kurt Busch 21st; Ragan 23d. Bayne, in the top five, had to pit with a couple of laps to go and dropped to 30th.

</TD></TR><TR><TD style="PADDING-BOTTOM: 3px; PADDING-LEFT: 3px; PADDING-RIGHT: 3px; PADDING-TOP: 3px" bgColor=#cccccc>NASCAR Nationwide Series</TD></TR><TR><TD style="PADDING-BOTTOM: 5px; PADDING-LEFT: 5px; PADDING-RIGHT: 5px; PADDING-TOP: 5px">Brad Keselowski took advantage of a crazy last 25 laps and the extra laps on a green-white-checker finish to pass Ricky Stenhouse Jr. and win Saturday night's Kroger 200 at Raceway Park. The series is not scheduled to return to the short oval next year as the date moves to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Keselowski's Dodge ran in mid-pack for much of the event as Stenhouse's Ford Mustang led 189 laps. But there was a red flag after Michael Annett and Tim Andrews crashed and Steve Wallace slammed into both of them. There were no injuries. Then, second place Trevor Bayne blew an engine. With a restart approaching with seven laps to go, Justin Allgaier's car caught fire, and he pulled off. That put Keselowski next to leader Stenhouse as officials moved up all the cars in line behind Allgaier for the double-wide restart. Keselowski won by .987 second over James Buescher's Chevrolet after four overtime laps. Stenhouse was third. Keselowski averaged 83.466 mph with five yellows for 28 laps. Stenhouse leads Reed Sorenson (ninth) by three points.

</TD></TR><TR><TD style="PADDING-BOTTOM: 3px; PADDING-LEFT: 3px; PADDING-RIGHT: 3px; PADDING-TOP: 3px" bgColor=#cccccc>NASCAR Camping World Truck Series</TD></TR><TR><TD style="PADDING-BOTTOM: 5px; PADDING-LEFT: 5px; PADDING-RIGHT: 5px; PADDING-TOP: 5px">Timothy Peters started just 16th and had to overcome a spin, but he won Friday night's AAA Insurance 200 at Raceway Park. It might have been the last Truck event at the short oval since the event won't be on the 2012 schedule. Peters, in a Toyota, passed James Buescher on lap 194 and won by 2.6 seconds. Buescher, who led 97 of the 200 laps, was second and David Starr was third. Peters averaged 83.306 mph with four yellows for 28 laps. Johnny Sauter (23d) leads Austin Dillon (ninth, pole winner) by four points.

In Funny Car, Capps got his first victory of the season. He ran 4.145 seconds, 303.57 mph in a Dodge Charger to best Tim Wilkerson's 4.175, 300.93 mph in a Ford Mustang. John Force set an NHRA record with his 139th career pole. Jack Beckman qualified sixth in the Valvoline/Aaron's Dodge Charger and lost in the first round. Mike Neff is 163 points ahead of Robert Hight. In Top Fuel, Brown clocked 3.883, 314.61 mph to best teammate Tony Schumacher's 3.919, 311.41 mph. It was Brown's third win of the season. Del Worsham is 82 points ahead of Spencer Massey. In Pro Stock, Anderson's GXP had a 6.562, 210.28 mph lap vs. Mike Edwards' 6.576, 210.14 mph in a GXP. Anderson won for the third time this year. Ron Krisher qualified 13th in the Valvoline GXP and lost in the first round. Edwards is 15 points up on Jason Line. In Pro Stock Motorcycle, Tonglet's Suzuki went 7.001, 189.76 mph to Michael Phillips' 7.016, 192.63 mph on a Suzuki. Karen Stoffer is five points in front of Eddie Krawiec.

It was his 200th Grand Prix start. Sebastian Vettel started from the pole in his Red Bull-Renault in wet conditions but ran wide in a corner after five laps and Lewis Hamilton passed him. Drivers pitted for softer tires as the track dried. But when it rained again, Button passed his McLaren-Mercedes teammate, following pit stops. Hamilton spun and got a drive-thru penalty and made a total of five pit stops for tire changes. Button won by 3.5 seconds over Vettel after 70 laps, with Fernando Alonso third in a Ferrari. Alonso spun and went wide several other times. Hamilton was fourth and Mark Webber fifth. Vettel leads Webber by 85 points.
