Wish Me Luck Folks
 

Greetings Everyone,

About nine months ago I was sitting in the drive through at a popular fast food burger joint when the temperature gauge on my 2001 Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS Limited Edition started to climb above 200 degrees Fareinhieight and kept climbing, keep in mind it was already 92 degrees outside at 1am when this happened. Luckily, I was able to get my food and get out of the drive through. I knew instantly based on the trail of coolant from the drive through and when I did a U-Turn that the radiator was shot. The car did overheat and stopped about 3 miles from my home.

What I originally thought was just the radiator turned into a slew of mechanical failures or accidentally damaging other relevant parts. Since that night, and with the exception of going the twenty feet from my driveway to my garage or vice versa, my car has remained dormant at 188,137 miles, and I've replaced all of the following in no particular order including: the radiator, upper radiator hose, lower radiator hose, water housing outlet, water housing outlet gasket, thermostat, thermostat O-ring, power steering pump, power steering pulley, water pump, Plenum (upper intake manifold), oil dipstick, several Original Engineered Manufactured bolts and studs, the feed fuel line, and the water sending sensor with pigtail.

The good news is I am fairly confident that I got my car back together and running normal again. Tonight, I cranked it, let it idle for about twenty minutes with occassional light revs every so often, and it was reading 192 degrees Fairenheight while 91 degrees outside, it idled smoothly at about 700 RPM without any smoke, leaks, stalls, or check engine lights occuring. Since it was late tonight and since I still have to clean up everything, than I'm hoping if everything goes well, that sometime this weekend will be it's maiden voyage since remaining dormant at 188,137 miles.
So, with all that having said, than I think what I am needing is some type of blessing from the car gods that my car is back to normal because I really would like to drive it more than just twenty feet at a time. :) Wish me luck everyone.

Best of luck, seems like you have been playing the old replace parts till everything is new kind of game, ouch. Hope you have it dialed in and your back on the road ready to rumble!!

Thank you everyone. It does mean a lot to me. I think I may have it running properly again. Some interesting Chevy Monte Carlo statistics from tonight:

While it was 87-93 degrees on the road tonight, I was able to set the cruise control and drive my MC 74 miles, averaging 70.8 mph, at 1900 rpms, at a constant engine temperature of 193 degrees, averaging 26.6 mpg (Please keep in mind from my own personal experience, if that had been in the middle of winter it would have been closer to 29.7), using 2.6 gallons of gasoline, all while staying cool with the A/C and my iPod on and listening to some "moonshine music (yeah define irony knowing that the MCs were on the NASCAR circuit at one time)", in an hour and seven minutes time without any leaks, smoke, stalls, rough idling, or check engine lights. :-)

did you go for the lim gasket too when you did the plenum?
