What are these?

Hey all, i'm trying to figure out what kind of technology is in use on certain cars running lights. Im curious as to whats in use on for example a BMW's angel eyes. I know other cars have the type of light im thinking off, but i can't think of any.

What im looking for is below, the light is nice and smooth versus LED's which have a more dotted look. If anyone knows what kind of light set up these are i'd love to know. Thanks:thumbsup:

Bmw uses a clear plastic ring with a single led in em, thats how they get the smooth look

I have seen those in Audi and Hyndai's, and I have seen when you turn on the blinker, it turns the LED strip off, till the signal is turned off.

They look like LED's with a well designed diffuser to even out the light. We use similar LED technology at work to replace flourescent lighting.

My other thought is it maybe ccfl? But then you wouldn't really be able to shape them how you want like with the 300 above

Possibly Fiber Optics.

I think CCFL's would be too brittle for use in a car's headlamp assembly. We use some of them at work too. Fragile as hell.

Fibre optics is a good one. Might be the winner.

That was another thought i had, some sort of fiber optic technology. Back to googling as i'd like to find out what these are so i can get my hands on some. Maybe a type of tubed led light? Lots of possibilities it seems.

Maybe its some kind of side glow fiber optics. or a cob led. Anyone have ideas or am i out in space?:rotfl:

What about VFD (vacuum flourescent display)? Just to add to the confusion. :rotfl:
