What is this car ?

Hey everyone, I have been helping my G/F ( Tonda ) put together some old family
photos and we came across this really cool one of her Dad ( Norris ) with his car.
Can anyone tell me what the make and model of this car is ? It looks like a 40 -42
Ford Business Coupe ? Don't know........
Any suggestions ?
Thanks.

I have no clue! Pretty cool when you dig up super old pics like that.

skylark65 03-04-2010 09:30 AM

im stumped, but i would guess that the car is from about 1935-1939 ish, in about 1940 most carmakers started moulding the headlights into the fenders for a cleaner look ( like the buick and pontiac space posted). im stumped on the make, i did quickie google image searches on whatever i could think of, imma say its gotta be something weird, thats for sure :) i was thinking mabe an oldsmobile or a desoto? but idk...

Do a search for Lasalle automobile. They made cars and are now worth quite a bit if you own one.

PS. my mother looked at the photo and agrees. It looks like a Lasalle or Cord to her.

Thanks RJ....So far, I'm betting on the Lasalle ? I looked at few on the web
and side vents on the engine hood are common. Unfortunately her Dad struck
his Cool pose in front of any nameplate or badging.

It is a 1940 cadillac series 62. I love old black and white pics like this.

Sir Monte 03-04-2010 06:02 PM

That is correct. My Dad (he is 74) said it is a 1940 Caddy Coupe and he knows his cars.

skylark65 03-04-2010 06:04 PM

BINGO!

the caddy.......

Ohhhhhh that is Sweet ! My G/F is going to freak out when I tell her that. Thanks.

A funny story about that car and Tonda's future parents......
While they were dating her future Mom ( Vernola ) loved that car that Norris had
at the time.....while waiting on him one evening; he showed up in a different car. He had
traded for a four door something that was kinda beat up. Her Mom looked at him
and the car and said..." just a minute".... and came back out wearing jeans.
She had, been all dolled up until the 4-door showed up.
No matter what generation, .........Girls Love cars
Her dad died in a car wreck in 1985. Wish I couldv'e met him.

I'll be a SOB!!! :(

I talked my mother out of the car being a Cadillac. She was right on the money.

40 caddy

These kind of cars just don't get made anymore. They were rolling works of Art...

Tonda's Mom

........Tonda found this photo of her Mom when her parents
were still dating. She looks pretty sassy in this one .
It is a better shot of the Caddy also. I am working on the photo
with her Dad in it that was taken the same day that this one was. It has a lot of glare
in it and I'm trying to edit it out.

TOO COOL! :) funny thing is, i was telling my dad about this thread and how it was decided the car was a cadilac series 62 coupe and he goes " a series 62 coupe? i knew where there was one in a lilac bush! coulda had if for free but it was pretty rough."

Taz 03-15-2010 08:58 AM

Are you going to photoshop fix the bent grille too?

nascar43 03-15-2010 12:00 PM

the grille...

.........No ,I had'nt planned on photoshopping the grille. That bumper
appears different from the photos of the other Caddys ? The other
ones don't have that center piece. Different model of That caddy ?

Taz 03-15-2010 05:08 PM

Could be.

Different trim level maybe?

Should've went with the SS model. :D

nascar43 03-16-2010 04:02 PM

40 caddy

I would love to find that car but it's probably been long gone by now ....:(
It would be incredibily expensive to restore or even street rod it. Oh well.
